Following the great success of Now Then Lad, PC Mike Pannett returns with more tales of policing rural Yorkshire. In YOU'RE COMING WITH ME LAD Mike Pannett blends gentle humour with real-life action as he introduces the wonderful rural characters and breathtaking scenery on his local beat.
It's a far cry from Mike’s old job hunting down drug gangs and knife crime in Central London. Now, in between investigating sightings of the mysterious 'Ryedale Panther' and dealing with a stag party that gets out of hand, Mike explores the natural beauty and rich wildlife of his Yorkshire surroundings. He meets local farmers, chases local thieves, and escorts John Prescott through the terrible floods at Malton.
Despite the pressures of patrolling six hundred square miles of God's Own Country, Mike still finds time for romance, will his relationship with WPC Anne Barker develop into something more serious?
YOU'RE COMING WITH ME LAD is an endearing – and revealing – portrait of a local bobby and his extraordinary beat.

A coppers copper!
I couldn't wait for the next installment of Mike's adventures in North yorkshire and like all good things it was well worth the wait.Being a retired rural bobby myself and with family residing in the area that I have good knowledge of ,I was not to be disappointed.Mike has an easy style about his writing which makes this such a pleasurable read. You can easily identify with the situations that he finds himself in and the descriptions of the countryside and characters are second to none.Never mind five stars...I would give it ten out of ten.My only question would be,when is the next installment out?Well done,Mike, keep the stories coming!.
Oh, I say!
Having read the first book I couldn't wait for this one. The question was, would it live up to the first? Well, let me tell you, it was twice as good. This is one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure to read. Now I can really see where the Herriot links have been made. The descriptive makes it feel as though you are right there amongst the drama with Mike. The characters have developed brilliantly and the humour still abounds, although the suicide brought tears to my eyes. As you read you go through the emotional highs and lows of the stories, but in the end it leaves you with a great feel good factor. I totally agree with the other review 10/10 and am now totally hooked.
North Yorkshire's finest
Having read and thoroughly enjoyed the first volume of Mike Pannett's recollections I was looking forward to the second installment. I've certainly not been disappointed as 'You're Coming with me Lad' ticks all the same boxes and more as the second excursion around North Yorkshire serves to deepen the characters Mike comes into contact with as well as adding a new set of fascinating ones. The friendship with his old friend Walter and his burgeoning relationship with his new girlfriend are dealt with gently and poignantly and serve to provide the books with a strong feeling of continuity and emotional bond. As with 'Now then Lad' the book is beautifully written and evokes wonderfully the locale and people. I'd certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a good read and I'm looking forward to the third installment.
