Best map of Italy I have found
Having moved to the Naples area this year, I needed a decent map of Italy. This map is the largest scale I found (it is certainly on a larger scale than any map I have found out here), although it is still not really quite large enough, as it does not show every small road. Coupled with appalling Italian signposting, I still have to rely on the Sat Nav or Google maps from time to time. However, the mapping is clear and easy to read (although some place names obscure the roads), with a convenient spiral binding. Although the spiral binding makes the map easy to open and flick through, it does make it more difficult to read the map where the spiral runs through. I would have given this 3.5 rather than 4, but I didnt have the option!
michelin maps italy
A fine collection of maps. Only slight reservation concerns print size, but that is inevitable, given the book size. We found it invaluable in exploring Italy by car, and as a reassuring backup to the Tom Tom
Adequate but not fool-proof
This was the largest scale general map of Italy I could find for a recent driving holiday round Italy. For the most part, it was exactly what was required, easy to use with clear symbols. However, while its separate inner city maps are useful for one-way systems, we found them too small to be easy to use while on the move and they just cover the centre of the town. Around the edges of cities, even a map of this large a scale often came up short; around Florence, it was out of date with the motorway work that is under construction (August 2009) and so incorrectly labelled a couple of exits; in the Venice area, it was simply not detailed enough to make up for the chronic lack of road signs! So, a good holiday resource, especially in more rural areas, but for town/city use find something more detailed.
