Synopsis
Formed in 1972, The Jam brought back the energy of the mods to the punk generation. In this 2007 sold-out concert recorded at The Forum in London, the British rockers perform some of their biggest hits--including 'A Town Called Malice', 'Start!' and 'When You're Young'.

Nice To See You Back
Before i went to see From The Jam i didnt really know what to expect. If i was honest i thought that it would just be another Jam tribute band. But Bruce,Rick,Dave and Russell have done an excellent job.Russell is doing a splendid job singing all the songs, and what is really refreshing to see is that he is not trting to take off Paul Weller in the slightest shape or form.Ideally it would have been wonderful to see Paul Bruce and Rick working together again but atlas this will never be.Hopefully the From The Jam fans will not hold any malice towards Weller, afterall it was him that we have got to thank for so many great songs..Paul does do a couple of Jam songs in his live sets now,and its a real pleasure to see the old Modfather singing Eaton Rifles..God Bless you Paul Bruce and Rick, thanks for all the great memories..PS Russell and Daver welcome aboard The Jam Bus Ride....Lads you are doing a great job...
Not so sad without Weller
If you can get over the lack of Weller in this (and it seems some can't), by any standards this is a great performance by two of the original trio. As an original fan and having seen them many times in the late seventies, this comes closer to the hard-edged original than I'd thought possible. For Weller fans this will be quite pointless (he's a very different act these days), but for those who saw more in The Jam than just him, this is very well worth it. Makes you realise just how much of a contribution to the original sound these guys made.
A JOY FROM START! TO FINISH
This really is a first class return. Ironically, given his recent disparaging remarks in Mojo, you'll probably see more cabaret and self indulgence at a Paul Weller gig than here.
The set list is terrific. There's Fire n Skill aplenty on display, with accomplished musicians playing great songs with a surprising amount of passion after all these years.
I was lucky enough to see The Jam on several occasions during the early 80's at Blackburn King George's Hall, Manchester Apollo and Leeds Queens Hall. I can assure any sceptical long-time fans you won't be disappointed with this live performance.
The 40 minute interview with Bruce and Rick, looking back at their early career, is by far the most interesting offering on Disc 2. However, with so little written about their solo careers I can't help feeling the opportunity has been missed to offer die hard fans a little more insight into the largely forgotten period leading up to this reformation. By the way Bruce Foxton played on five SLF albums, the excellent Hope Street has been missed out from the sleeve notes. Perhaps the only disappointment with this release, are the interviews with individual band members. Each lasts for approximately 15 minutes, but Gary Crowley asks the same questions in roughly the same order and perhaps unsurprisingly gets a very similar response each time.
Certainly without Paul Weller there would be no From The Jam. So I think it is fair to offer a big thank you to Bruce, Rick, Russell, Dave ... and Paul ... for 90 minutes of pure entertainment.
Here's hoping the former Time UK track `The Cabaret' can find its way into a a future set list.
