An intriguing new world from Sharon Shinn. A fantasy land largely human, but with the occasional wild creature, and a fair few mystics. The latter are hated and feared by the vast majority of humanity.

Our protagonists are a motely band put together by the king to tour the land and survey what's going on out there. Thus the book is a travelogue which introduces us to this world. It's a little short in plot, largely setting things up for future volumes. We have an intriguing central character - who has secrets in her backstory that will shock you when revealed - and the customary romance that this writer always does so well.

Fans of sharon shinn aren't likely to be disappointed. And new readers could very well good hooked

Fantastic intro into a new world.
Sharon shinn has created a a new world for fantasy readers to fall into.
There isn't much detail about the world, its more about the characters who are as eclectic as you can get.
But it gets you hooked on to the series. Already ordered the next three. Can't wait.
