Customer Reviews
Along the Coaly Tyne cd
EXCELLENT. If you want to hear local folk collier songs in genuine northern geordie/northumbrian dialect this is the one. Lou Killen/Johnny Handle/High Level Ranters are surely the best exponents of these songs. This is real dialect not " posh geordie ", and I have lived up here for 66 years so know the real thing. You get whole stories of real episodes in Newcastle and area mining history as illustrated by " The Blackleg Miner", or "The Trimdon Grange Explosion." You can learn about working on the busty and brockwell seams .....miners' pay......and so on. It takes real Tynesiders or Northumbrians to get the rrrrr burr sound right. Wonderful musical accompaniment of banjo, concertina, guitar, melodeon, accordion,,fiddle, and never to be forgotten tin whistle and Northumbrian pipes of Colin Ross.
