Manufacturer's Description

NEW - World Smallest Camera With 10x Optical Zoom and 28mm Wide Angle Leica Lens, 7 Megapixel and 3 Inch LCD Screen

Panasonic's new DMC-TZ2 and DMC-TZ3 are the latest members of the award-winning Lumix TZ family of digital cameras, which is renowned for packaging a remarkable 10x optical zoom in a compact, stylish body.
To further add to their appeal, the TZ2 and TZ3 go one step further to feature a 28mm wide-angle Leica DC lens (equivalent to 28-280mm on a 35mm film camera) for wide-angle shooting.

More detail in a single frame

The 28mm wide-angle lens opens up a plethera of photographic opportunities, allowing photographers to easily capture a large group of people, or expansive architectural structures and landscapes with dynamic width and rich perspective.
The wide-angle lens is particularly helpful in situations where you cannot step back or move away from a subject - ideal for shooting group portraits in a small room for example.

The diminutive size of the 7.2 megapixel DMC-TZ3 belies the wealth of technological features.
Incorporating a powerful 10x optical zoom in such a slim and stylish body is impressive in itself.
Add to this the incorporation of Panasonic's Mega O.I.S that prevents blurring from shaky hands, Intelligent ISO to prevent motion blur, and the high quality, high performance image-processing Venus Engine III to name but a few - and the calibre of these new additions becomes apparent.

The LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens comprises 11 elements in nine groups, including an ED (extra-low dispersion) lens and three aspherical lenses.
This advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance.

To further add to their appeal, the zoom ratio can be extended up to 15x in 3megapixel resolution mode with minimal deterioration thanks to the Extra Optical Zoom.
By using the central part of the CCD, this powerful zooming function allows you to easily capture and magnify distant subjects.
Furthermore, in combination with the 4x digital zoom, a zoom factor of up to 60x can be achieved (55x for the DMC-TZ2)

Great No.2 Camera!5
I usually use a DSLR Camera (Canon 30D). However I don't always want to lug a relatively bulky camera around all the time.

This TZ3 is an ideal camera. With its all metal construction it is small enough to fit in the pocket. Quality of images are excellent and when enlarged up to A5 size, stand comparison with my larger format camera. The lens is superb and its large range of focal lengths make it ideal for the majority of occasions.

Not having an eye-level viewfinder took a bit of getting used to (particularly in bright sunlight!) but in my opinion this was a minor disadvantage.

All in all, this is an excellent point and shoot camera and is certainly one of the best, regardless of price!

love panasonic5
have used this camera for a while now. A holiday in spain tested it's versatility and it impressed me with it's 'point & shoot' clarity.
I use the video facility and am always surprised with the quality - as good as my canon camcorder. It is quite bulky (wont slip into shirt pocket)but the 10x zoom more than balances that out.

LPJC3
At first I was very impressed. The camera was small, powerful and gave good results. However, when I took it on a trip abroad to photograph animals in the wild I discovered I couldn't use it. This was because without a viewfinder I simply could not see what I was trying to photograph in the bright conditions prevailing virtually all the time. I simply had to forget I had the camera.
I asked Panasonic if they sold something to shade the screen, which might help my ability able to see what I was doing. Their response was pretty much that I should have thought about needing a viewfinder before buying their camera and that I was stuck with the problem. I would suggest others heed their advice and not buy a similar product if they need to use the camera in bright sunshine or other possible conditions where a screen simply isn't able to show you what you are taking.
