Product Description

The new Caplio R7 is the successor to the award-winning Caplio R6! With an 8-megapixel sensor and a wide-angle lens (28 mm), the Caplio R7 takes digital photography to a higher level. Retaining the best features of its predecessor, the Caplio R7 further enhances the series' reputation with the addition a dual retractable-lens system and a powerful 7.1x zoom, so you can take photos of anything you choose. Its CCD-shift vibration correction function and ISO 1600 sensitivity work together to compensate for camera shake and low lighting conditions, ensuring excellent results. Its Smooth Imaging Engine III reduces the noise that can occur when taking photos in high sensitivity mode, without any loss in quality. The Caplio R7 also has a 2.7? LCD screen, making it easy to monitor your shots, and a host of advanced built-in functions, including the ADJ (adjust) button, which corrects exposure, a set of intuitive image editing modes, a face-detection feature and a number of scene modes. The Caplio R7 comes complete with a battery, allowing you to take up to 300 photos, and is set to continue the success of the Caplio series!

Customer Reviews

Superb!!!!! *****5
I'm not sure what camera the negative reviewers were using, it doesn't appear to be the same one. I have just bought the R7, having been recommended it from a relative. I have only used it indoors so far and I am very impressed by the picture quality. Have been perusing the manual tonight to try out different modes and I am absolutely delighted with it. It is very easy to use and understand and produces shots of superb quality. I have tried macro, soft flash and red-eye reduction (on the dogs!) and printed out a beautiful picture of my children. 5***** would definately recommend it, as a small camera with super-sized features I can't wait to shoot more pictures!!!

Big disappointment1
I bought this camera because of the reviews I read on the internet. I have an old Canon Powershot S40 which I bought in 2002 but I wanted something smaller and I thought the newer technology would be better.

The indoor pictures are quite appalling. I have not been able to take one picture which does not appear blurred and this is because of the pixel 'noise'. I thought my expectations might be too high but I took the exact same pictures with both my old camera and the Ricoh and the Ricoh was significantly worse. In my mind this camera is unusable. I changed the ISO to 200 to make sure that the auto function was not setting the ISO too high but this did little to improve the pictures. Unfortunately, I was too busy to view the pictures I had taken and now it is too late to return it. Just didn't think I would need to. Take heed.

Caplio R72
After two months I am still trying to get this camera to take a decent flash photo! Outside the Caplio R7 wide angle and zoom features are fantastic but indoors this camera is a real disappointment. I've read and reread the comprehensive user guide and for every satisfactory indoor flash photo I'm left with six that have skin complexions ranging from blue to vivid red and exposures that range from bright white to fully underexposed. Using the camera indoors, in auto, is not an option unless you are happy to bin most of your candid shots! The focusing and flash seem to take for ever and the red eye flash option cannot be trusted. This camera is NOT for happy snaps, which at the price should be well within its capabilities. I cannot recommend it to anyone other than a user that has time and knowledge to compose a photo, set the mode to one of the many options and then take the picture.
Added on 08/02/08 My R7 camera is currently with Ricoh for inspection.
Added 26/02/08....The camera has been repaired and returned and is now performing more as I would have expected for a camera so highly recommended in photograhic reviews. BUT it still doesn't take decent photographs when using the flash in low light or backlight conditions. Skin complexions are hit and miss and more frequently subjects all appear to have been on the wine! I'm happy to give it an average rating as the fantastic daylight operation in part compensates for the poor flash photos. I'm still disappointed. The basic camera, SD card and case + additional repair postage costs have set me back £200!
