Sit back and relax and let the World pass you by.5
Please Note as both have been on BBC 2 I base my review on that.

The BBC 2 version was in widescreen so I expect the dvd will be the same.

Running Time 4 hours approximately

Three Men in a Boat - 2 hours approximately

Griff Rhys Jones, Dara O'Briain, Rory McGrath and a nervous dog called Loli set out from Kingston to Oxford in a wooden skiff in an attempt to re-trace the journey up the Thames immortalised by Jerome K Jerome in his comedy classic Three Men in a Boat. Along the way they drop in unannounced on a couple of friends - Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Antony Worrall Thomson.

Three Men in Another Boat - 2 hours approximately

A follow-up to the 2006 remake of the Jerome K. Jerome classic. Griff Rhys Jones, Dara O'Briain and Rory McGrath have set their ambitions much higher than their previous chortle along the Thames. This time, they are sailing from Tower Bridge to the Isle of Wight in Griff's classic yacht.

Sit back and relax and let the World pass you by.

Jerome K Jerome's classic tale, a modern remake4
This DVD set contains the original 'Three Men in a Boat' tale as experienced by comics Griff Rhys Jones, Dara O'Brien and Rory McGrath who row up the River Thames and retrace the 96 mile journey as told by Jerome K Jerome in his book of the same name first published in 1889 when 'boating on the river' was a popular Victorian pastime.

The second DVD in the set is entitled 'Three Men in Another Boat' but it has nothing whatever to do with Victorian pastimes and instead has more to do with Griff demonstrating his sailing prowess with his own classic wooden racing yacht. Once again he is accompanied by his two friends Dara and Rory who are clearly born landlubbers and have little knowledge or experience of the sea. Captain Griff attempts to coach his friends and this salty tale end with a sea race that Griff has every intention of winning.

There is a sequel to sea adventures of these three boating friends but this is not part of this two disc set. Doubtless it will be released on its own or with a fourth tale yet to be filmed.

I have watched both tales many times and it amazes me how three unlikely friends could live in close proximity with one another without a fight breaking out: they have quite different personalities. Evidently Griff is the more experienced 'boater' and he desperately tries to coach his two friends which, more often than not, result in comic situations and a great deal of frustration and heartache for Griff.

I have given 4/5 stars because I think the tales were a little rushed, particularly the first, which could have been stretched to 3 or even 4 hours and include more of their adventures. Still, both tales make for an enjoyable evenings viewing.

Loved it !5
What's not to love..... being keen on sailing myself, I felt the pain of having to learn quickly but they never took themselves too seriously and it made for a beautifully enjoyable experience. Relax, open a bottle and watch; Dara O'Briain is particularly amusing....
