Product Description

This challenging and provocative book looks at mission with young people in three comprehensive sections: mission through the local church; beyond the church walls; and rethinking young people and mission. Written by a range of experienced practitioners it tackles: how to do effective mission as a youth worker in a church; and how to think creatively and work beyond the comfortable usual youth work boundaries. The final section is more reflective, giving space to raise questions about why and how youthworkers do what they do.

The book about Young People and Mission5
I was expecting great things from this new Church House Publishing title but found it to be even more useful than I had initially imagined. Each chapter is written by a contributor who brings to the subject specific insights from their experience and from the varied roles in which they work. From starting working with young people in an area where the Church has had little previous impact to working with young people in custody new and interesting areas of youth and mission work are covered.

This is one of those great books that enthuses the reader to re-evaluate and reengage with youth work and mission. Many of the idea seem obvious but then one reflects that, if they were that obvious then "why don't they happen in my Church?". The answer is that they are not so obvious it's just the point has been made so well.

Although, as the title expresses, this book is about Young People and Mission it is fundamentally about what it is to be Church in the world and although we live in an ever changing world living out the Christian faith in the world around us is the key. So this book is about far more than the title would lead you to believe. This is a book that every member of the Church can get something from, you never know it might even inspire people to re-evaluate their church's work with young people.

A must read.
