Product Description

Have you ever wondered what church is all about? Ever found yourself in a service wondering what on earth is going on? And what the point of it all is? Whether you're completely new to church or have been coming to church for a while, this little book is here to help you! "What am I Doing Here?" is a beginner's guide to church, written by an ordinary pew-dweller who has asked the same questions as you. It uses the structure of the Holy Communion/Eucharist service to demonstrate that church is actually about meeting our deepest human needs, needs that are ultimately only satisfied in meeting with our Maker.

Review
"'Small, low-priced, and with great illustrations by Dave Walker - the UK's deservedly best-known Christian cartoonist, with an almost cult following - this adult guide to an Anglican Holy Communion service looks an almost surefire winner. This, with its blending of humour, keen price, and promised press campaign, will certainly do well.' --May issue, Publishing News

Absolute beginners.4
This handbook is designed to be used with the Anglican 'Common Worship' Sunday Eucharist Service and focuses on the major aspects of the service such as: Communion, Confession, Prayers of Intersession, the Sermon, the Creed, The Peace and hymn singing. This slim seventy-four page devotional book(-let!), written by Hilary Brand author of 'The Sceptics Guide To The Bible', seeks to guide the uninitiated into how to get the most out of church on Sunday morning and experience the full spiritual richness of the liturgy through the cultivation of awe, reverence and adoration. And also how the potential worshiper can re-orientate their conciousness and focus their mind on God.
This volume also includes a basic glossary of Christian terms (eg: 'Matins', 'Gradual Hymn', 'Evensong') and a list of related websites.
Dave Walker's Cartoons are (as always) excellent. Funny, insightful and full of warmth.
An ideal guide for Confirmation candidates or anyone who finds church boring but doesn't know why!

A good place to start5
A short, well-written introduction to the Christian faith. It covers the basics, and has excellent cartoon illustrations.

A good present to give to someone who is joining the church, or just thinking about it.
