At Last, someone telling it like it is!5
Simon Jones has presented us with a book that finally deals with the central questions of the relevance of the church to contemporary life. Much as many church folk would love to believe that the problem of church decline is to do with a rejection of truth, Jones helps us see that that many spiritual seekers are looking for a reality that appears to be missing in many of our meetings and organisations.

People may have rejected the church, Jones argues, but it hasn't rejected truth and is desperately searching for it. Jones suggests that this search for truth is worked out in the context of real human relationships, and that the church hasn't been great at facilitating this.

It is, in the end, a kind of honest love letter about the church; "Life at church is a bed of roses. It's beauty can leave you stunned. Its thorns can tear you to pieces. Life in it is a mixture of the two; one hopes that the beauty outweighs the blood loss."

It is written with honesty, humility and a great amount of humour, and is a valuable tool for anyone seeking to understand better the role of the church in bringing spiritual life to those who seek it.
