Cool Calvinists5
I purchased this title in order to find out where the Reformed faith was going in the 21st century now that a new generation of Calvinists are emerging from the theological woodwork. The author is a journalist and approaches his theme by interviewing a cross section of pastors and observing their churches, analysing the trends and practices that appear to be making them successful and reflecting on where they might go in the future. Observers of the Reformed tradition will recognise the names of John Piper and Mark Driscoll among the case studies which he covers. I enjoyed this book because I find it satisfying to read a text that reassures me that Reformed Churches can grow significantly and know success without compromising in the 21st century, that being Reformed doesn't mean that you can't be innovative and think outside the box and that in addition to knowing Scripture it is important to understand and exegete our culture so that we can speak truth in a way that will connect with this generation.

This is a 1st class text. The only small caveat I have is that the churches covered are overwhelmingly "Reformed Baptist" in orientation and it might have been useful if the author could have incorporated some "Presbyterian-style" churches and pastors into his study. However, there is plenty here to encourage and stimulate Reformed people and churches in the UK as well.
