On 23 May 1999 in the midst of a World Wrestling Federation stunt, wrestler Owen Hart plummeted eight stories from the top of Kansas City's Kemper Arena to his death on the hard canvas of the wrestling ring. His death, witnessed by 16,000 live audience members and millions more on TV lead to a brutal seventeen-month legal battle of finger pointing for responsibility. In this book, Owen's wife speaks poignantly about her days by Owen's side, the life that they created for their two children, and the tremendous loss that she has been confronted with every day. From their days as high school sweethearts to Owen's performances in sold-out stadiums, she illuminates the tragic story of this modern gladiator and his horrific demise brought on by the neglect of the professional wrestling world.

broken harts
book really portrays the family life and life in wrestling number 1 family and how death can be exploited and how it can split a family to a degree that it hasn't recovered, it is a shame that only bret her brother in law stuck by her through everything and are friends to this day, if the stars went up to 10 this would be a 10 out of 10, I would recommend for any wrestling fan to get an insight of what the wrestling world is like for the wives and children
truely inspiring emotional and heartbreaking
5 stars isn't enough for me this book deserves at least 6/5. I couldn't put the book down, i'm in the middle of revising for my 3rd year uni exmas and all i can think about is Martha and her account of what happened with her life with and without Owen. I finished the book in 3 days (so i could get back to studying !!!) Honestly i couldn't put the book down the book is so well written and reads fluently. The story really shows the true meaning of what love is all about these 2 were teenage sweethearts and it was all taken away for entertainment and as part of the fight to win the viewers monopoly.
The stunt was ill prepared and Owens feeling not considered although he seemed to have the notion something was going to happen. The relationship described between Martha and Owen seemed at times to have a eery feel to it - almost to good to be true but i wish i had something only as half as good as what she describes.
The book is an emotional roller-coaster and highly recommended and is not just for wrestling fans this book could be read by anyone, even if you have no knowledge of wrestling what-so-ever, you would still endure the heartache and pain that Martha experienced along with all the highs to boot.
True Story of Owen Hart
I think this has to be one of the most harrowing books that i have read. Owens death being such a waste of talent, lost to showmanship.
This book doesnt hold back, Vince is pictured as the bad guy along with half the hart family. Infact only Bret comes out in a good light!. Martha is a very honest writer and her love for owen is very clear
I cant wait for Brets autobiography, for his take on the whole sorry story.
If your going to read any book on wrestling it has to be this one
