THE HARDCORE LEGEND....................MICK FOLEY
This 2 disc set takes hardcore to another level as all matches are shown in there entire. You get to see his matches all round the world and from company to company.............Matches from WCW, ECW, SMW and the WWF/E. Here Are some of the best matches on this 2 disc set
1. Cactus Jack vs Sabu (w/ Paul heyman and 911)
Foley said before this match that people said that it was a dispointment but i do not agree. Not only is it a good match, it is also there first match. Best parts of the match are when sabu jumps over the rail onto Cactus jack through a table and when Cactus Jack does his elbow drop from the middle rope to the floor onto sabu........Good match 8/10
2. Mankind vs HBK
I liked HBK's game plan in this match as he goes for foleys left leg. Crap ending as vader came out and hit HBK making the match a no contest, good spot though when Micheals cross bodys Mankind through a table.......10/10
3. Mick Foley vs Terry Funk
I always said that Terry funk is just an old guy trying to be something he's not but in this match he takes alot of punishment. On that note so did Foley. The EXTREME Pildriver through a table Was good.......9/10
4. Dude Love vs Stone Cold Steve Austin
Yes.......... Pat Patinson and brisco finally got what they deserve as undertaker was the specail enforcer for this match, and Mr Mcmahon was the specail referee.............Good parts when Dude love blocked the stunner and threw Austin into a car and when Patinson and Brisco finally got Chokeslamed threw two tables................10/10
5. Mankind vs Undertaker (hell in a cell)
This takes everything in the history of history to a nother Level as the match starts on top of the cell, soon Mankind gets thrown of the cell right threw a table (Mankind fell 16 feet). Seconds later he goes back up and then gets chockslamed threw the roof of the cell. Mankind gets Knocked out as taker punched Mankind after the second fall.............10/10
6. Mankind Vs The Rock From Raw 1999
This is when Foley won the big one. This match was No DQ and had alot of hype but that was it...............It was good but i though it would have been alot better. Super good ending because Austin came out from the back and hit the rock with a chair and placed foley on top of him. It shocked people around the world as Foley won the belt.....Well done foley 6/10
7. Cactus Jack vs Triple H
This was the Street fight from the royal rumble 2000 in MSG. Bloody match with every weponed used including brikes, thumbtacks, table and barbwire.
Good spot when cactus jack got pedigred on loads of Tacks........ 10/10
Other matches against Tommy dreamer, Sandman, Chris candido, Nasty boys, HHH, Sting, Vader and Mikey Whipwreak
Foley is god
When you talk about getting value for money as far as match content it's worth buying this dvd set for that reason alone. However the actual quality of the matches chosen by foley (and some not as he'll explain himself)are worth their weight in gold.
DISC 1.
1.Cactus Jack vs Big Van Vader(WCW 1993):Not particularly a great match but more for the history behind it.At one point in the match Cactus gets his nose broke (for real) and it sounds sick as hell.3/5
2.Cactus Jack and Max Payne vs The Nasty Boys-Chicago Street Fight(WCW):Although this match takes place in early 1994 the action is brutal and relentless.Foley, before the match said that the nasties were quite sloppy and this was evident throughout the match with a lot of bumps and rough chair and table spots being dished out to Cactus. With that said this would be fit to grace our tv screens nowadays and hasn't aged one bit.Brilliant match. Also the ending is much more violent that it's made out to be.Good to hear Heenan on commentary.5/5
3.Cactus Jack vs Chris Candido(SMW 1994):This match takes place in a high school basketball arena and is nothing more than a straight up wrestling match.Nothing new here as Candido usually conducts business this way.Nothing special and nothing poor.Early commentary from good ol'JR in his Smokey Mountain Wrestling days.3/5
4.Cactus Jack & Raven vs Tommy Dreamer & Terry Funk(ECW):Cactus now enters into heel territory along with his ECW days. This match typifies ECW main events at the time(late 1995),full of hardcore blood filled madness.Another historical moment in this match between Funk and Cactus, although rarely acknowledged. All in all a very good match with a violent chair spot. You can't help but feel you've seen it lots of times on ECW pay-per-views,no disrespect to the late great ECW.4/5
5.Cactus Jack vs Mikey Whipwreck(ECW 1996):A match put on the dvd,I suspect,to show Mick Foley's last match in ECW as the match itself wasn't an all star classic.A good show in by both wrestlers with Mikey out with something to prove after his short World Heavyweight Title reign.Chair spots aplenty and the usual good high-flying action by Mikey.Mick Foley's honourable exit and respect from the fans is what makes this match so special as any wrestler in those days about to jump ship to WWE or WCW would be accompanied by chants of "GET THE F*** OUT".Thankfully this wasn't the case. This feature can be reached through the abundance of special features on this disc.3 1/2/5.
6.Cactus Jack vs Sabu(ECW 1994):Before this heated contest Foley professes that the ECW fans expected an all-out massacre in this match given Cactus Jack's reputation over the years and Sabu's current reputation at the time.As the result the match itself doesn't live up to it's expectations.Still a decent outing by both wrestlers including a lot of dangerouse dives from Sabu, chair and table spots and a decent length aswell.4/5
7.Cactus Jack vs The Sandman-Texas Death Match(ECW 1995).Without doubt the worst and funniest match on the entire dvd set.About 3 minutes into the match Sandman recieves a concussion courtesy of a stiff frying pan shot to the skull. The look on Sandman's face is priceless as he's one of the toughest wrestlers in wrestling history.Considering how long the match went on for, a good 10 minutes after the incident Sandman puts on a good showing, although he did break Foley's neck in this match with a botched piledriver onto a steel chair.3/5
DVD EXTRA MATCHES;
1.Cactus Jack vs Sting-No DQ Falls Count Anywhere(WCW 1992):Once again like the nasties bout on this dvd this takes place 2 years before and is still quite intense for the time and company involved.Only weapons used are good use of the steel guard rail courtesy of Cactus deliberately taking the hits(much to the amazament of the fans)and a lot of chair spots.Good finish aswell.Additional commentary by Mick and Jonathan Coachman.4/5
2.Cactus Jack vs Subu(ECW 1994):Again nothing spectacular as with the match earlier on in the dvd.Things to look out for are a bad looking mishap from Sabu in which he needs some time to recover. Also most of the weapons used in WWE,WCW or most wrestling companys for that matter are fake but still hurt a little.ECW does things a little differently as you'll find out when REAL glass bottle is brought into the match,OUCH.Again commentary from Mick and The Coach.
3.Jack Foley & Les Thornton vs The British Bulldogs(WWE 1986):Gives new meaning to the words squash match.Crap really but holds nostalgia as it's Micks first tv appearance.Mick suffers a broken jaw in this match thanks to a vicious clothesline.
DISC 2.
1.Mankind vs Shawn Micheals(WWE):What a great display from both men.Mankind was in deep heal territory when this match rolled around to philadelphia in September 96 although the fans wrer starting to warm to his insane stunts, one of which you'll see in this match. It starts of with pure wrestling but eventually breaks down into a no-holds-barred war.The preasence of the casket adds eeriness no to mention the innovative chair spots at a time in the WWE when such a thing was non-existent.Could the prospects of ECW surpassing the WWE been too much for Vinnie Mac?5/5
2.Cactus Jack vs Hunter Hearst Helmsley-Falls Count Anywhere(WWE 1997):Cactus Jack's first appearence in WWE in met with great aplomb by then Hunter Hearst Helmsley,a rich aristocrat with, who had many believed for years to be,a transvestite called Chyna for a bodyguard.Amazingly she's all female which is hard to believe in these early clips.Anyway the match itself is intense to say the least eventually spilling out of the arena and re-entering with Cactus breaking the guard rail.Weapons included are garbage can, steel chair and an impressive table spot, great match.5/5
3.Mick Foley vs Terry Funk:Pure mayhem is all I can use to describe this match.Certain rules and stipulations surrounding this match make it all the more intense for Foley's sake who was in his Dude Love manifastation at this time.Stone Cold Steve Austin provides the funniest colour commentary I've ever heard. Both wrestlers put on a hardcore clinic with countless chair shots to the skull of both competitors and another impressive table spot.5/5
4.Dude Love vs Stone Cold Steve Austin(WWE 1998):Without doubt Dude Love's greatest match(there haven't been many).Vinnie Mac in usual Austin hating form as guest referee is as always on top form.As you'd expect from reading this review so far is this match was brawling at first, but breaks down into hardcore heaven.4/5
5.Mankind vs The Undertaker-Hell In A Cell(WWE 1998):Who doesn't know all about this match. In my and a lot of other people's opinions, the most amazing match in wrestling history.I don't care what anyone says, anybody who puts their body through that much punishement deserves unlimited respect. And to think it would be another six months before he'd capture the then WWF Title. He should have been handed it on a silver platter that night.AMAZING.10/5
6.Mankind vs The Rock(WWE 1999):The most emotional match in recent memory has to be this one.Earlier on in the night Mankind took Shane McMahon hostage in the middle of the ring with a submission hold and demanded a title shot. The Rock and Mankind had about 8 classic matches in a four month period, talk about chemistry. The match was made extra dramatic with the presence of dx(for Mankind) and The Corporation (for The Rock).Includes the most devastating chair shot I've ever seen.
7.Cactus Jack vs HHH-Street Fight:You wouldn't think this match is 7 years old.Probably the most clinical bloodbath on the dvd if there is such a thing. One thing to look out for is Triple H getting suplexed on the pallets resulting in his calf getting punctured. It takes some balls to go on for nearly 30 minutes.AMAZING.5/5
Well that's that I'm going off for a beer and a smoke I deserve it and if you're any sort of a wrestling fan you deserve this dvd,enjoy.P.S. the only reason I've given four stars instead of five is cause of those annoying blurred out wwf signs.AAAARRRRRGH.
A legends best..and worst...moments.
Mick Foley is a wrestlign legend who's made a great deal of sacrafices over the years, and 'greatest hits and misses' atempts to show 14 of his best matches...although there are some noticable matches not on the dvd such as his famous Japanese deathmatch against Terry Funk, his second hell in a cell match against Triple H and the I quit match against the rock. Yet this is still a great dvd, showing just how good a career Mick had.
Cactus Jack V Big Van Vader (wcw 1993)
By todays standards this match may not seem like much...but this was alot more brutal than audiences were used to at the time, vader punches the hell out of Cactus Jack's face...and listen carefully...you can hear Jack's nose actually break.
7/10
Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne V The nasty boys (wcw 1994)
A messy bit fun street fight match, the nasty boys are messy workers bu are good in this situation, the merchandise stand gets destroyed, and check out the sick fall Jack takes at the end.
8/10
Cactus Jack V Sabu (ecw 1994)
The first meeting of these two hardcore legends, but in all honesty its a bit dissapointing...Mick explains before this match what he was intending to do, but it doesn't really work, throw in a nasty botch by sabu, and you've got a match that although not bad, doesn't last long in the memory.
6/10
Cactus Jack V Chris Candido (SMW 1994)
This was during Jack's run in smokey mountain wrestling, a nice little company that was run by Jim cornette, and its a prety fun match and probably the most pure wrestling match on the dvd, its a shame candido had his demons as he was a damn good wrestler and his death was very tragic.
8/10
Cactus Jack V the sandman (ecw 1995)
Why this match is here I don't know, sandman gets his bell rung early on...and the rest of the match is a horrible unentertaining match.....watch it once...and then never bother with it again.
3/10
Cactus Jack and Raven V Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk (ecw 1995)
This match had a pretty big buildup...which included terry funk being set on fir by accident!!! Your typical messy ECW hardcore match with a few nice ideas such as Jack's eric bishoff T-shirt...messy but watchable.
6/10
Cactus Jack V Mickey whipwreck (ecw 1996)
This was micks last match in ecw, and inspite of mick being a very good heel (bad guy) he gets a big cheer from the crowd which is very respectfl, a good little match to, with the highlight being a pretty insane dive by mickey, enjoyable and it was good seeing mik getting respected by the ecw fans.
8/10
Mankind V Shawn Micheals (wwe 1996)
Mick's had a change of gimmick now as he's become the insane 'mankind'. This is one of his favourite matches and you can see why, a nice long match, a great table spot, and mick really plays the character well, the only down side is a messy ending that takes away a little....still a cracking match.
9/10
Cactus Jack V Triple H (wwe 1997)
A brilliant video is shown before the match as all of micks gimmicks appear on screen togeather...very well done...the match is solid but messy, a great little ending with Trip's going through a table makes it a little bit better though.
7/10
Mick Foley V Terry Funk (wwe 1998)
Probably the hardest mtch to rate on this dvd, its very messy and goes all over the arena...which is both good and bad, the one thing I didn't like was stone cold steve austin commentating, far to much of the focus is on him and not the match which is a shame, even though he does a good job...hard to rate.
7/10
Dude Love V stone cold (wwe 1998)
With Vince Macmahon as guest referee this is a very fun match, autin and dude use the entrance way brilliantly, vince is great as the referee and we see gerald brisco go through a table, this match alkso holds up well to repeat viewing.
9/10
Mankind V Undertaker (wwe 1998)
THAT hell in a cell match and probably the main reason to buy this dvd, mick takes not 1 but 2 of the biggest bumps in history and still manages to complete the match...considered on of the best matches of all time, yet divides opinion alot at the end of the day your jaw will drop and your respect for mick will increase hugely....amazing.
10/10
Mankind V The rock (wwe 1999)
A match that is here more for historical purposes than for beiung a good match....its a decent match, but too much interferance brings it down a bit...but mick wins the damn title, and that alone makes it worth watching as few people have earn't their chance at the top as much as mick had.
7/10
Cactus Jack V Triple H (wwe 2000)
The match that was supposed to be Mick's last one, and its damn well brutal, Triple H is on form and both men bring the intensity, plenty of blood and one of the most cringeworth endings to a wwe match at the time...if mick had of retired with this match he would of gone out at his best.
10/10
Extras matches.
Jack Foley and Les Thorton V The british bulldogs.
Micks second ever match...his jaw gets broken and he shows how green he is...poor guy.
4/10
Cactus Jack V sabu
A bit better than their first meaning due to an even nasty sabu botch, and the bottle that just won't break.
8/10
Cactus Jack V sting.
Why on earth this match is in the extras I don't know, an excellent match with some very imaginative moments that shows just how poorly wcw used mick.
9/10
Not a perfect collection as there are some matches that didn't need to be there.....and some that did.....but there's plenty of great moments and this is a good showcase of one of wrestlings best, well worth a look for any wrestling fan.
