History
Perhaps the most historic event in wrestling history. In this single show, Bret Hart was screwed out of the title (for real), and left the WWF to join WCW. Vince McMahon became the "Evil Boss" persona which lead to the infamous Austin vs. McMahon fued, and boosted wrestling into its greatest ever state of sustained popularity.

Do not buy this tape for the wrestling content, although there are a few good moments.

Buy this tape for the history. The Bret Hart screw job. The shocked look on Shawn Michaels face. The moment Owen Hart broke Steve Austin's neck. So many famous moments in one unbelievable event.

Also includes footage of the Legion of Doom partners Animal and Hawk, which will be of use to LOD fans following the untimely death of Hawk recently, and this is also the event where Kane had his first ever Federation match, against the pain loving Mankind in one hell of a brutal, typically Foley bout.

Also features the team of Vader, Goldust, Marc Mero and newcomer Steve Blackman against the team of British Bulldog (RIP), Jim Neidhart, Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon in a short, good but forgettable Survivor Series style match, and another short match featuring The Headbangers and The New Blackjacks against The Godwinns and The New Age Outlaws in a surprisingly disappointing match, featuring the skills of Billy Gunn and Bradshaw.

All in all, forgettable wrestling, unforgettable show. Buy now purely for the ability to say you own it.

The Screwjob
Vince McMahon probably realized that every wrestling fan in the world would tune into the Survivor Series just because news had leaked of Bret Hart's defection to WCW, so he didn't bother putting in any effort towards mid card matches. Well, Vince was right, and the only mid card bout worth watching is Stone Cold's six minute destruction of the late Owen Hart for the Intercontinental Championship. The rest of the card is meaningless and boring, but the infamous main event more than makes up for it; HBK and Bret Hart brawl around ringside with weapons for a while, before finally starting the match. A few moves later, HBK had Hart locked in his own finisher; The Sharpshooter. At this point, Bret was supposed to reverse the Sharpshooter into a Sharpshooter of his own, and then Owen Hart, the British Bulldog, Chyna and Triple H were to run in, resulting in a double disqualification. However, Vince had other plans and ordered the time keeper to ring the bell. McMahon has played on this incident in recent years, with every Survivor Series Championship match having a Sharpshooter releated screwjob, but nothing compares to the real thing. Get this and Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows and you'll have the ultimate insight into that infamous night.

Nothing amazing.
Dont be fooled by the infamous screwjob incident that occurred at the end of this ppv, although i imagine its the only reason you would want to own this video. The mid card is pretty rubbish, although mankind and kane put on quite a good match, although the ring is bathed in red lights, and its less of a match than it is a brawl. Austin and Owen go at it in austins return match after owen broke austins neck at the 1997 summerslam (yes, it was an accident, but it was also legitamate.) The final match is good, and old time fans will get that nostalgic feeling at seeing the end of an era occur at the final bell. Whoever said bret refused to lose so he could go on nitro the following night with the belt, is wrong, and obviously hasnt seen wrestling with shadows. I would recommend that video to anyone interested in the bret/vince screwjob saga, and it paints a much better picture of what really happended than this survivor series video will ever do.
