Amazon.co.uk Review
Mick Foley--Hard Knocks & Cheap Pops, perhaps the finest compilation on one wrestler the WWF has ever released, attempts to explain how this wrestling legend forever changed the WWF in his 15-year career. Actually, what makes it so entertaining and informative is that it's the now-retired Foley who walks you through his career and in the best sections candidly deconstructs his most famous matches (where he assumed the various personas of his Leatherface homage, Mankind, the mythical Cactus Jack, and the tie-dye clad Dude Love). Regardless of his numerous incarnations, the one constant throughout his career was a geeky, tongue-in-cheek sense of humour that dominated even his most violent, gruelling matches. Fat, hairy and sporting a large, gap-toothed smile, the happy-go-lucky Foley proudly admits that he ushered in the Uber-Nerd into the WWF, and gave dorks around the world a role model.
However, his odd ring antics--such as Mankind's signature move of stuffing a sock down the throat of an opponent--and backstage slapstick behaviour were only part of the Foley story. As a wrestler, few were as hardcore. Whether falling 20 feet onto tables, getting raked across the face with a 2x4 wrapped in barbed wire or getting pile-driven into a floor full of tacks, Foley pushed his unfit body to ultimate extremes. Hard Knocks & Cheap Pops highlights some of his more brutal matches, including the classic Street Fight with Triple H, which may stand as the bloodiest match in WWF history. Owners of the DVD also get five of Foley's favourite hand-picked matches, making this a must-own for his fans, or fans of wrestling anywhere. --Dave McCoy, Amazon.com

A more recent collection of Mick Foley's exploits in the WWF
To be frank, this is a fantastic DVD. Firstly there's the main subject, Foley's story of the last couple of years and the various hilarious antics and heart warming moments along the way. It has things like the hell in a cell match at No Way Out 2000 and the Street Fight, both with HHH, and his taking over the 'commissionary position' and his japes with Edge & Christian. So with all that, even if you get the VHS version you're in for a treat. but on the DVD you get all 4 of his wrestling incarnation's TitanTron videos (including the Commish) and a small collection of his favourite matches - such as the classic with Shawn Michaels (which contains a nasty table incident) and, my fave, the Al Snow/Big Bossman 'Kennel From Hell' match, which is dire, but Mick and Kevin Kelly's amusing commentary make it well worth a look. Basically, if you like wrestling, buy this DVD, Mick really is a total legend, much respect.
If you buy 1 DVD, but this
If you are a Foley fan, buy this. If you are a wrestling fan, buy this. Even if you dont have a DVD player, buy this so you can watch it at a mates house. It's that good. The DVD has pretty much everything you could ask for. It has great wrestling action, with the Royal Rumble, and No Way Out matches against HHH, covered in great detail by Foley. The DVD has comedy, with some clasic moments with Edge & Christian, and some great Al Snow jokes. One of my favorites being at the start, when Foley is introducing the DVD.
Foley: "Now the first thing i'm going to talk about is Al Snow. No don't turn of your TV yet!"
Classic stuff. There's also great clips of Foley as commisioner, along with the story of how the cheap pop was born.
The DVD doesnt come with a vast amount of extra's, (foley's 4 entrance videos, and 5 matches), but the ones that are there are thouroughly enjoyable. 4 of the 5 matches on the video are fantastic to watch, and the Al Snow Vs Big Bossman match is hillarious, as Foley & Kevin Kelly describe the match as if it were one of the greatest of all time.
In essence the DVD gives you a great recap of Foleys last year in the WWF. It is a DVD I have watched time and time again, despite the short time I have had it. If you have [the money] spare, buy this. If you dont, find it, so you can buy this DVD.
Mick Foley - Hard Knocks, Cheap Pops and A Great Laugh
I bought this merely to add to my collection of Mick Foley stuff, cods let's face it, the guy's a genius in and out of the ring. Sure, you can buy the VHS version, but with this you get 4 titantrons and music for the Commish, Mankind, Dudester and Cactus and also some of Mick's lesser known but greater matches including Halftime Heat with the Rock at halftime in the 1999 Superbowl - an empty arena match. We also get to see the infamous Kennel from Hell match with Mick and Kevin Kelly on commentary. Just listening to Mick's commentary made me laugh. A great DVD for any WWE fans collection.
