Customer Reviews
pretty average but where are the women!!!!!!!!!!!
this ppv wasn't as amazing as previous rumbles but it had a great royal rumble match and had two O.K. title matches aswel, the casket match also made this event good.
matches:
Shaun michaels vs Edge
this match was pointless in my opinion because neither superstar really dominated or did anything amazing
average opener 6.5/10
Undertaker vs heidenrich in a casket match
i liked this match despite its rather predictable ending, a good thing about this match was that snitsky's interrference didn't make any difference as his worst enemy came and took him out. good all round match 7.5/10
WWE title match
JBL(c) vs The Big Show vs Kurt Angle
a really liked this match as i do with any triple threat match.
it wasn't one of the best of all time like the one between angle, the rock and undertaker at vengeance 2002, but thats just my opinion.not a great ending but overall, a decent match.
8/10
World Championship match
Triple H(c) vs Randy Orton
this match had alot of character and potiental and when it came down to the championship, it really got serious.
superb through every second 9/10
Royal Rumble match
this match was as good as any other rumble in history and had all the normal characteristics a)the first two entrants were past or future champions b) you had some entrants that just don't belong on ppv (huthum... the coach) and c)the last 6 contained one of the first two entrants.
a great royal rumble 10/10
so thats the 2005 royal rumble courtesy of mr matthew hunt.
A good Royal Rumble
Edge vs Shawn Michaels
An OK match, some near falls and Shawn nearly tapped out and Edge nearly left the arena....I give this match a 5 out of 10
Undertaker vs Heidenreich (Casket Match)
A good match, a very unpredictable twist during the match (let's just say that theres someone already in the casket), some near loses, but a predictable ending...I give this match a 6.5 out of 10
JBL vs Kurt Angle vs Big Show (Triple-Threat WWE Championship Match)
An immense match with some good wreslting, Big Show dominant until pushed into and smashed the Smackdown! announce table, interference from the Basham Brother, Orlando Jordan, Luther Reigns and Mark Jindrak after JBL was sent crashing through the barrier to keep the crowd at bay...I give this match 8 out of 10
Triple H vs Randy Orton (World Heavyweight Championship)
A quite good match with equal domination from both superstars, a mammoth Figure-4 Leg Lock on Triple H in which Orton somehow shifts the weight for it to hurt Triple H...I give this match 8 out of 10
Royal Rumble Match
An absolutely great Rumble with a fantastic stare down at the end between Batista and John Cena...I give this match 11 out of 10
SPOILERS:
Edge vs Shawn Michaels = Winner EDGE (with help from the ropes....)
Undertaker vs Heidenreich = Winner UNDERTAKER
JBL vs Kurt Angle vs Big Show = Winner JBL (pins Kurt Angle)
Triple H vs Randy Orton = TRIPLE H (Evolution banned from ringside)
Royal Rumble Match = Winner BATISTA
PS If you're wondering why Vince Mcmahon sits down whilst in the ring its because he hyper extended his knee cap getting in!
WWE Royal Rumble 2005
A cracking PPV overall with some good supporting matches, more on those later. The rumble match itself showed omens of things to come in 2005. It displayed the extreme athletic ablility of Shelton Benjamin - one of the finest pure athletes to grace the wwe in years (and let's face it there aren't many, they're mostly actors/bodybuilders) - destined for greatness. The rumble was also the turning point in the career of Dave 'The Animal' Batista - no longer a 'heel' character. After winning the rumble he goes on to decimate HHH at wrestlemania 21 - finally WWE 'writers' have got the spotlight of Raw storylines away from that egotistical idiot. The other shining point of the rumble is the sign of the coming of a new 'people's champ' - John Cena. He too after showcasing his abilities in the rumble goes on to greatness at wrestlemania 21. Keep in mind folks he seems to be winning the hearts of the people but he has to fill the Great Ones shoes. (incidentally somebody tell the Rock 'nice acting, well done, but the fans of WWE miss you, come back and electrify!)
Back to the PPV - The reason the event doesn't get 5 stars is because the supporting matches were poorly executed. The Randy Orton - HHH storyline has been and gone, i'd have liked to see edge or shelton here. All taht happened was an average match with Orton losing because of a concussion (this concussion looked pretty real rather than acted not sure what happened, bloddy good acting if that's what it is Orton looked out for the count!) The WWE title match was more entertaining with a commentary table being flattened, a barricade being flattened and Angle landing face first on a chair (heh it might be fake but its always nice to see a character you love to hate take a fall right?) JBL winning was written in i assume to build up his impressive record before facing Cena at 'mania. The other two supporting matches were in the same vein as far as entertainment value goes - good but not great. All in all a good choice for modern WWE fans and a must have for Royal Rumble fans as the fun controversy that has so many times clouded the end of this match re-emerges and signals the imposing catapulting of an Animal and a Rapper to stardom.
