the sweetest of memories 3
The tagged classics releases are generous dvds,we get WWF era releases without any blurring or editing and we get the odd dark match thrown in and the build up to the event every now and then, the idea works and its nice to put what i have on video onto dvd and watch my collection grow, here we have the royal rumble 1993 and 1994 together, but i hear you cry,are they any good, well lets see.
Royal rumble 1993 contains four matches before the royal rumble itself, some were decent and some less so,in this case the event opened with a tag team match featuring the steiner brothers going up against the beverley brothers, who werent related, anyway, the match started off really slow as both teams sized each other up but the false starts did get a bit annoying, when it did warm up and indeed speed up,we were treated to a good contest, mixed dominance and a good understanding of wrestlings old school moves, acceptable, just.
The intercontiental championship was contested next as the holder shawn michaels went up against his former tag team partner, marty jannetty. This match had to be good,it had to be,and thankfully it was, each man knew the others moves and they thought alike so we had a good match thats worthy of repeat viewing.
Bm bam bigelow fought the big bossman in a very sluggish, scrappy, slow paced match packed with bearhugs and that kind of grinding down tactics,it was very dull and stank the room out.
The final match before the rumble featured bret hart giving a WWF title shot to razor ramon. This was a good contest but was never great, the two men worked hard but it was short of a standard that i expected, good but should and could have been better.
The royal rumble match itself was good and featured some of the greats of the time, bob backlund performed very well indeed here as did others, there was some good feuds around at the time and the men couldnt wait to see a certain rival hit the ring, the winner was treated to a nice number and wasnt really a shock,a good rumble all round when you piece it all togther.
The royal rumble 1994 was a rumble after the hogan period had gone and the WWF was working to bring the average age of its talent pool down somewhat, the event featured four matches again before the rumble itself.
The event opened with tatanka going up against bam bam, this match was good and both men gave good accounts of themselves, bam bam performed well and tatanka raised his game to create a good, all round opener.
The WWF tag team titles were contested next as the quebecers went up against owen and bret hart who had a messy end to 1993 and their relationship was slighly strained but they had the talent and were favoured as the winners in this bout, but would it be so?
The match started well, then it dulled a bit and got lousy before becoming very eventful at the end, something that i have never forgot to be honest.
The intercontiental championship was defended by razor ramon against I.R.S next,i found this match slightly off the boil but had some redeeming qualities, its mixed but worth a look all the same.
The WWF championship was contested next in a casket match, the idea seemed so unique at the time. The champion was yokozuna who went up against the undertaker who was certainly in confident voice leading up to the match.
The match itself wasnt that good,in fact,it was garbage but the interference during the match is what makes it so talked about, this bcomes one ugly battle but all the while it is great and mildly captivating and the ending is indeed iconic.
The royal rumble was the first time each entry was divided by 90s seconds and not 120 so there was a snappier feel to it and the match was a roaring success, the ending of the match itself will always be talked away so thats a great thing, this dvd release is worthy of 3.5 stars.

This dvd is good5
this dvd is very good it is that good old wrestling from the past when they didnt use weapons all the time

Great package5
The actual product is listed as the 1992/1993 Rumbles but it is 1993/1994. 1993 Rumble was a sort of changing of the guard as Hogan and the Warrior were gone and Bret Hart was the champion and newcomer Yokozuna was hunting down the title. The then 505 pound mammoth entered the Royal Rumble to try and gain the number 1 spot for Wrestlemania IX. Some of the matches on the card were Shawn Michaels vs Marty Jannetty, Bam Bam Bigelow Vs The Big Bossman and Bret Hart Vs Razor Ramon for the WWE Title. The 1994 Rumble could be the most controversial Rumble due to the outcome. Also we had the Quebecers vs Bret and Owen Hart, Razor Ramon vs IRS and Tatanka vs Bam Bam Bigelow and the Undertaker Vs Yokozuna casket match for the WWE Title. I recomend this Tagged Classic as you get to of the best Rumble's.
