Customer Reviews
Take it or leave it,
For the 2006 edition of WWE Vengeance, you can expect a mixed bag. Watching this made me both pleased and sad, knowing what was to follow for certain superstars. It also seems to perfectly balance the pros and cons of WWE, meaning that Vengeance 2006 consists of great matches and storylines, terrible matches with failing plots, the signs of potential that's either since realized or flopped, great and/or poor booking, and just plain old mediocrity.
Randy Orton vs. Kurt Angle
Angle's last match on WWE Pay-Per-View, so naturally it demands attention. A step down from their encounter at ECW One Night Stand but the right choice for the opening contest. Good match that brings a close to their rivalry but it could've been so much more. (7/10)
Eugene vs. Umaga
When Jamal returned to the WWE and was reinvented as Umaga, I thought the gimmick would bomb big time. But like the infamous JBL experiment, it defied theory and succeeded. Unfortunately, it wasn't until later on that we got to see just how talented he is. At one time, I enjoyed the Eugene character but it's become stale now. The result is a three minute squash that only builds up Umaga for showcasing what he can really do against better opponents. The appearances of Hacksaw, Doink and Kamala are entertaining, but ultimately, this is just filler. (3/10)
2-out-of-3 Falls Match
Ric Flair vs. Mick Foley
I was expecting this to be a decent affair. Against the likes of Chris Candido, Goldust, and HBK among others, Foley has shown over the years that he doesn't need Hardcore Rules to have a great wrestling match with the best of them. And Flair has shown that he still has a lot of life left. But sadly, this is just used as fuel for their rivalry, and build-up for their `I Quit' battle at SummerSlam. Watchable, but nothing more. (5/10)
Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat Match
Shelton Benjamin (Champion) vs. Carlito vs. Johnny Nitro (w/Melina)
Another classic battle for the Intercontinental title. A truly awesome match with great innovation, original spots and outstanding wrestling. Carlito has really improved, Nitro shows that he's ready for single competition, and Shelton...he's already proven himself as the IC champ. How about putting him in WWE Title contention, Vince? Match of the night. (9/10)
WWE Championship Match
Rob Van Dam (Champion) vs. Edge (w/Lita)
It's outings such as these that justify why Edge was generally acknowledged as the best wrestler of 2006. His reinvention as the Rated-R Superstar, his promo at the start and his performance here show how comfortably he's fitted into the WWE Championship division. As for RVD, he shows that he can carry the load as WWE/ECW World Heavyweight Champion, giving a great performance. Lacked a certain something that could've made it truly special, but still a great match nevertheless. Why RVD created his own downfall, I'll never understand. (8/10)
Kane vs. `Impostor' Kane
A storyline that had potential but failed due to poor booking. Kane and his impostor try to make the angle work, but ultimately fail. An okay match that's watchable but is again tainted by poor booking and an incorrect outcome. Thankfully, Kane would be feuding successfully with Umaga shortly afterwards. (6/10)
Extreme Lumberjack Match
John Cena vs. Sabu
The right setting for these guys to play in. Both show that they have chemistry, and the Raw and ECW lumberjacks all do a good job in making the match a success. Too short to allow Cena and Sabu the opportunity to really tear the house down but still an enjoyable affair. (7/10)
5-on-2 Handicap Match
Spirit Squad vs. D-Generation X
Should the Spirit Squad have beaten KANE AND THE BIG SHOW in FOUR MINUTES to win the tag titles?! NO!!! Did they establish themselves enough to deserve to be in the main-event with icons like TRIPLE H AND SHAWN MICHAELS?! NO!!! A senseless situation that is totally unneeded for. The Game and HBK nevertheless carry these guys to a respectable outing, but this should be placed much lower down on the card. The reunion of DX works, though. (7/10)
All the extras are on a separate disc for a change, allowing for more goodies to be included. Because the PPV focuses on the return of DX, half of the extras focus on segments and angles that led to Vengeance, which are quite hilarious. The non-DX extras cover more of the Foley-Flair feud, and also include the awesome `Victim' music video by 18 Visions, a Torrie Wilson magazine cover shoot and a thrilling WWE title rematch between John Cena and RVD from ECW One Night Stand.
So why shouldn't you buy WWE Vengeance 2006? Poor booking, the fact that it's lacklustre in places, the placing of some matches on the card are incorrect, and that it feels like build-up towards something greater. Why should you buy it? The extras, of course. The championship matches are worth the money, and Cena/Sabu + Angle/Orton are also worth watching.
Vengeance is not a necessary purchase but you won't be sorry you've bought it. Either buy it or don't. It's certainly half-great, half-not-so-great.
mixed show
Vengeance 2006 arrived with storylines again surfacing to a boil, some feuds began and of course some would end, some didnt work so were replaced, while others ran their course,if you ask me in one word whether this is essential then my answer is no,but there are some great moments here and perhaps not where you would expect.
The match opened with a tremendous opener in randy orton vs kurt angle, this is how events should start, this wasnt an epic match but high in quality, the finishing move was electric in its creation.
Next up was a match of little purpose or point, eugene, the worst gimmick in recent years, was pitted up against umaga, eugene was joined at ringside by doink the clown, who wore the mask this time then?kamala and hacksaw jim duggan, this was done to warm the crowd up but this match was a squash match,i can be no more clear on that, waste of time really.
Next up was a match that came with hype, richard flair had slagged off mick foley as a glorified stuntman in his memoirs and the WWE decided this would make a good feud, the one thing they didnt count on was these two stinking the room out, their match was a best of three falls and was terrible. They had no chemistry ,the match didnt last long and the ending was lame and weak ,shoddy work.
What followed next was a triple threat match for the intercontinental championship and what a match,we had the champ shelton benjamin going up against johnny nitro and carlito,if we are to have a perfect match then we need various things but one of the main ones is chemistry and we have enough here to shift the axis of the planet, this was a true classic that i wont forget in a hurry.
Next up was the WWE championship where the champ rob van dam went up against a very in form edge and this was another match of sheer brilliance, both men gave their all and worked so well together in the ring,i cant praise this enough either.
Next up was imposter kane vs kane and yes it was as bad as it sounds, even jerry lawler and jim ross in commentary knew this was terrible and could hardly disguise that fact even though it is their job,i hated this match and it pains me to say that.
This was followed by a better match,an extreme rules lumberjack match featuring john cena against sabu with lumberjacks from raw and ecw surrounding the ring,i have always enjoyed the lumberjack format and although this match was short enough it was still enjoyable, the lumberjacks always cause distraction from the match itself but i enjoy that and there is good rivalry between all concerned, both cena and sabu create enough havoc in this match to keep the fires burning.
The main event was building for ages and the hype surrounding the short lived reformation of d-generation x was vast, here hbk and triple h were paired against the 5 members of spirit squad in a handicap match, the match was good and had its moments but there was a bit of prancing about that was annoying with regards to the spirit squad, they played their part well on some levels but maybe a case of too many cooks spoiling thr broth, all in all a mixed enough bag and as my fellow reviewer here states this is one event that you can take or leave.
wwe vengence 2006 very very good

triple threat intercontinental championship match between Johnny nitro with melina, carlito and shelton benjamin.johnny nitro won after carlito hit a backstabber on benjamin and then nitro pulled carlito out of the ring and pinned benjamin. 7/10.
2 out of 3 falls match ecw vs raw foley lost to flair first by cradle pin and then by dq he hit flair wth barbed wire. 8/10.
Kane vs Imposter Kane. Weird but good match imposter kane won by chokeslam. 7/10. RVD vs Edge wwe championship ecw vs raw rvd won with frog splash. 9/10.
Spirit squad vs dx. short, funny, predictable result though. 8/10.
