This is a brand new set which has been launched to commemorate Thomas’s 60th Birthday. The main attraction of this set is that Thomas appears to be a real steam engine as steam appears from his funnel as he makes authentic whistling noises. The steam is cold water steam and is 100% safe for children. They can even fill up the boiler by themselves, although adult supervision is recommended! I am not sure how this is produced, but even as an adult it is amazing watching the steam appear as Thomas puffs round the track. I would suggest buying a large bottle of de-ionised water (from any garage or hardware store at about £1) as you and your child will keep wanting to refill Thomas’ boiler again and again! A full boiler will last Thomas approximately 25 circuits.

The sheer magic of seeing Thomas steaming along as in the shows will enthrall and captivate your children of all ages. This is a must for any Thomas fan, even if you have a lot of the Tomy Motor Road and Rail already, as this is something quite special. Thomas also has a fantastic metallic blue coat and is not the run of the mill one that you get with all the other sets.

The set itself contains one inner loop and an outer loop, enabling your child to make full use of the points to switch tracks. There is also a tunnel and a large suspension bridge to add to the interest.--Matt Finn

The track is easy to set up (just follow the simple instructions in the pack, or create your own track layout) and Thomas can either be battery operated or he can be switched off and pushed around the track by hand. Thomas even works off track on any flat surface

This train set works in conjunction with Tomy’s Thomas Motor Road and Rail system. With over 22 Thomas trains to collect and many road and rail accessories available, children can collect them all to create their own Thomas adventures and stories. Good steam fun
My son is four years old and is a big Thomas fan. For his birthday we decided to get him a train set and the Tomy system was recommended to us by a friend. The Steam Set was the newest set available so that is the one we got.

Well, this set is a just fantastic. The track is really easy to put together and the accessories like the tunnel and the station look great. But the real magic comes once you've put Thomas on the track and filled his funnel with water. We were all amazed to see real steam come puffing out of Thomas' funnel as he went around the track. I've never seen anything like it. I know this is called the 'Steam Set' but I was not expecting to get real steam out the train!

The steam is totally safe for the young ones as it is just water vapour and not at all hot. The funnel lights up red and that makes it look hot, which just adds to the magic.

Our boy absolutely loves this toy and I can see him playing with it for many years to come. I came on the Amazon site to buy a bit more track but thought I would let people know how much fun this train set really is!

Words really cannot express my pleasure with this toy we bought last week. My little boy is four and loves Thomas the Tank Engine and we decided to buy him a train set for his birthday. The Tomy system was recommended by a friend and the Steam Set was the newest set available.

Once opened, the set was easy to set up, with the track slipping together really easily. There is a tunnel and a station to place around the track and these look great too. But the real fun is once Thomas is on the track with a little bit of water in his funnel. You turn him on and real steam actually comes out of his funnel as he moves around the track. I know it is called the Steam Set but I didn't actually think steam would come out of the train!!

The steam is totally safe (not hot like it looks - just water vapour) and a small amount in the funnel lasts for quite a few journeys around the track. My boy and I stood in amazement as the puffs of smoke came out of Thomas time after time!

My boy hasn't stopped playing with this toy and I'm not sure he ever will!

It's not often I'm compelled to write a review, especially about a toy, but this one has really impressed me and my wife. (whoops....and of course our children). Maybe it is slightly on the expensive side, but you do get a very innovative high quality toy for your money.

The stream action is better than I thought....espcially when the train pulls into the station and lets out loud whistle and a long burst of steam. The steam is actual cool...which I can't understand...who ever heard of cool steam...but it safe for the kids which is all that matters.

Well done Tomy!!!
