Manufacturer's Description
Simplify your cinematic journey with this all in one player that plays your movie collections on DVD discs & video tapes. This combination is the only player that maximises convenience & enhances your movie experience.
The direct dubbing button allows you to start recording from the DVD disc without a complicated menu system selection or input/output selctions for separates.
The progressive Scan doubles the verticl resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending with the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instananeously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, the human eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.

Videos don't play well
We bought the Philips DVP3100v DVD/VCR combi as it plays a large range of media types and has a 6 head VCR player with PAL I and PAL B/G which is suitable for UK and Australia. The DVD player does recognize my home movies in divX format (converted from wmv format - Windows Movie Maker files) and standard jpeg photos on CD-R discs - which is great. Unfortunately, we have not managed to make this machine multi-regional despite attempts at the more widely recommended hacks. However, the biggest problem has been the poor quality of VCR playback with some videos virtually unwatchable with flickering black screens enough to frustrate even our four year old. The manual tracking function doesn't help and now the Automatic Tracking doesn't seem to work (despite pressing "0" as the manual suggests). We have no problems with our 10 year old 2 head Panasonic VCR so it's not a problem with the tape. The menu system seems very primitive for the VCR so it would seem that they may have chosen to cut costs here and enhance the DVD player. The manual is very sparse and not well organized so that doesn't help with troubleshooting either. It is a shame as it's a nice looking machine and not too expensive but I wish now that we'd just bought separate DVD and VCR players or chosen another brand.
Great Bargin for nice Gadget
Got this player a month ago and so far I have no complaints. It plays DVD's really well, every Divx I could through at it. One thing I liked is that it shows the full title of the divxs as my the four other Divx players I've used havent, very handy when you have 6 movies on one DVD or over 20 episodes of simpsons. All in all a great DVD and Video player, the only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because the menu system is a little clumsy for both the DVD player and Video and it also isn't multi region. But £120, you cant go wrong.
This thing is next to useless!
I have had nothing but trouble with this player since I brought it - truth be known, I have brought two now as I returned the first thinking it to be faulty, only to find the next displayed exactly the same faults! Well, where do I start! It's so noisy! When on standby you get this really anoying high pitched whine, which is even louder when vhs tapes are played. This was almost enough for me to throw it through the window. Then, the standby screen which is blue and carries features such as "PLY" and "HI-FI" leap up and down. The menu button on the remote only works if the batteries are brand new (I kid you not) and the fast forward and fast rewind buttons don't function at all when the player is in VHS mode. This means you can't just leave the tape to rewind, you have do do it bit by bit! I'm just going to email the supplier in the hope that they will see fit to refund my money so I can buy a completely different model. If not, I'm just going to throw it through the window and buy another just the same! Just don't buy it: as you can see, it's so much more trouble than it's worth!
