Looks great but Problems Problems, PROBLEMS!
BEWARE- although this is a lovely looking player after exactly 1 year of owning its now unusable for recording.

When originall bought i had to have it replaced several times before i actually recieved one that worked. Throughout its life i've had a few things go wrong such as locking up and having to reboot, then recording a program only to find at the end there's nothing recorded or at least the recording is unaccessible.

Not only that. the recordings are in a non-standard format therefore cannot be recognised for playing by some computer programs.
Right now, even with a firmware upgrade and a factory reset it just makes RW disks unusable and just doesn't record reliably. In fact if it does record i'm surprised and then if i try to record another title on the same disk it usually becomes unreadable on that attempt!

Whats even worse is -if i lock the disc on this machine which is meant to protect the recording - it actually makes it unreadable. I PERSONALLY HAVE LOST IRREPLACEABLE FOOTAGE BECAUSE OF THIS AND ITS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

overall the spec looks great on paper, its easy to use but it would be nice if it all just worked. I just hope that the other Ellion models are better designed for those who buy them.

Superb
I found a new version Ellion Slim in Amazon site with enhanced features, compatible with DIVX playback and Dual format disk recording. I have fancied to buy this since quite a long while ago as I had seen the same model but with a different name in France. It looked smart and slim and good value for money however I knew that the first version of this 530S had freezing problem that made me cautious to buy this unit.

Now I have been so pleased to have this unit which is perfectly recording with all my +/- disks and working well with all my MPEG-4 disks.

Looking at connections on the back of the cabinet, it has got almost all of them I want, two scarts, output/input and 5.1 channels surrounding sound outputs and component/composite outputs and in the front, i-link. This is a really good machine with all those connections/features that can not be compared to cheap dvd recorders in the market place.

My biggest worry, freezing problem, did not exist from the start and it has been working just fine.

Munti-region code is so simple press 7-7- region nbr on the remote with no disk inside which I have got from their service center on the warranty card.

This is a really good machine with such a nice look to it.

I have had this machine for almost 8 months and whenever my friends came around, they all liked the shape and would always ask me where they can find one.

I have transferred all my bulky VCR tapes piled up from my work into DVDs and it makes all tidy and slim like the shape of it.

At the beginning I had struggled a little bit getting it up for running but once I have got used to it, all has become so easy to me now.

Unlike cheap DVD recorders from Super market according to what I heard from my friends that make them waste so many new discs, this machine is quite compatible with various discs both +RW/-RW and recording & transferring to discs has been succesful for more than 90%. Also the multi-region hack I have got from Ellion service center makes me enjoy all dvd films without worrying region codes

Whenever my machine is compared to my friends machines, I feel I have done the right thing buying this.
