Amazon.co.uk Review
This silky-voiced Texan foursome combine hints of the slow, laconic sweetness of R&B mistress Erykah Badu with the tough, edgy pop of TLC. Like other US R&B girl groups, their follow-up to 1998's self-titled debut comes with the suitable glossy sheen and hot, late 90s producer--in this case She'kspere, the dude behind TLC's summer of 99 hit "No Scrubs". His magical, minimalist touch makes tracks like "Bills Bills Bills" and "Bug A Boo" memorable for their insouciance, and deft, hardcore harmonies. Writer/producer Missy Elliot also puts in her several thousand dollars-worth on "Confessing", a low-key love groove. Though teenagers when they recorded this album, Destiny's Child sing convincingly of faithless lovers, e-mail stalkers, and extra-marital temptation, complete with cod-Shakespearean quotes. They also do a gospel version of "Amazing Grace", letting their voices buck and weave a cappella. Apart from a few less than enthralling ballads, it¹s an engaging, sassy mix. --Lucy O'Brien
Customer Reviews
As far as I'm concerned...
This is a fairly good album. It absolutely whoops ass over FanMail which I give just 1 ickle star(why do we all compair them?) but I'm not sure that it's the best album on the market.
I got the special edition with 2 CDs, and so that makes up for some really desperate album fillers. Everything starts of extremely promisingly with So Good and Bills Bills Bills and the intermitant Bug A Boo, but then it trails off with about 5 songs that all sound similar. But, alas, as things all begin to go pear-shaped, along comes the absolutely outstanding Say My Name...it nearly convinced me to give this 4 stars. But, as with other people who have reviewed this, there are too many fillers and not enough of the brilliance of Say My Name and Bills Bills Bills...
MMMmmmmmmm!!!
Well being a great fan of Destiny's Child I hate to say that this is my least favourite album...There are the good tracks that they released and then a few others that I liked (Temptation and Stay being two of them) but some that I just always have to skip cus there soooo empty and boring...I know others will really disagree with me and thats ok but its not my favourite (altho I hate being negative!!) Although I do agree that there is a good chance that most fans will enjoy this and it does have some classics aside from the fillers. I also like the way they structured the album with the intro and the little rules between each song!!! HEHE!!!
cool, funky and sexy
Destiny's child have truely done it this time. This album is a must have!!!! Its packed with funky cool R&B style tunes. The best songs are Bills bills bills, Bug a boo, jumpin jumpin!!, also the album has more chillin songs, 'Stay' is a beautiful song, very slow and sexy, great for chillin out to.Amazing grace is also a gorge song. My advice Buy it, you won't regret it!!!!!
