Product Description

The trouble with the Mulholland family, Prudence decided, was that they were all in love with the wrong people. She'd been overjoyed when Pendle, her super-cool barrister boyfriend, invited her home for the weekend to meet his family. At least she might get some reaction out of him - so far he hadn't so much as made a pass at her, after the first night when he'd nearly raped her. But home turned out to be a decaying mansion in the Lake District, and family were his glamorous, scatty mother who forgot the mounting bills by throwing wild parties, and brothers, Ace, dark and forbidding, and Jack, handsome, married and only too ready to take over with Pru if Pendle didn't get a move on. It was only when she noticed the way Pendle looked at Jack's wife Maggie that it began to dawn on Pru that there was more to this weekend than met the eye. It looked like a non-stop game of changing partners...

Customer Reviews

Prudence5
Wonderful writing from Jilly, she really grabs you and pulls in you the book. It is so good I have had to buy it again as the last one fell apart as I had read it so often!!!

Go on what are you waiting for, go and order it!!! Just one click........

Oh dear!1
Oh dear, Oh dear, Oh dear!!! I chose this as part of some 'light, summer reading' and was interested to see that many of Jilly's earlier novels have now been re-released and re-packaged. Really don't know why they bothered with 'Prudence'. It's so dated and painfully so. You just cringe at both the outmoded behaviour and shockingly inappropriate language. I don't know who would be interested in reading this - certainly not the 18-25 age group of today which I suspect was this book's original target audience. Historians and social scientists may be more appropriate to see a snapshot of 1970's life which is thankfully behind us. 1 star was the minimum I could give - there are truly no stars in this piece of drivel. Avoid it at all costs!!

pure feel-good nostalga5
This book really does make you feel good. It's easy reading with great characters and lots of humour. OK, so it's set in the 70's, well thats not a problem, novels can be set in any part of history and still make good reading. JC writes with warmth, fun and a sense of whimsy. Her characters are, in the main, larger than life which takes the reader away from the drudgery of ordinary life. Brilliant!
