Howard Hill, a latter day Robin Hood?
Howard Hill is almost the mythical Archer of the past 50 or 60 years. Many of the modern American (and even some UK) Archers cite Hill as one of their Archery Inspirations.
Wanting to read something of the man, I purchased this particular book, for no other reason than it was by Howard Hill. I am an Archer of the modern era. I started with the Olympic Recurve, and have since moved onto the well Engineered Compound bow. That said, I still wish to go back to the traditions of old style Archery, and Howard Hill is one of those famous names. Baring in mind the book was written for a previous generation, and that it was also written from a hunting background, some of the ideas and themes in the book are not ones that a "modern" European would entertain for their sport. Equally, the book is well written with, even with the passage of time, many relevant passages of information specifically with reference to archery form and style.
Would I recommend it - yes and no?
If you are looking for something modern, with up to date coaching tips and form - well then NO.
But if you want advice from a man who had made his sports almost an art form. A man who has become legendary for his skill. A man with an obvious love for, not only skills, but the wish to encompass others with his love of Archery, then this may well be the book for you
Hunting the hard way
This is the best book I have ever read on bow hunting. Howard Hill was not just an amazing shot, but also
a great story teller. I was hooked after the first chapter, and could not put the book down, It took less than 2 days to read. I have read it several times since, it never fails to make want to pick up my bow and shoot.I am looking foward to getting Wild Adventure.
