Could be better4
I've waited a long time for this book, and first of all it looks great. Mostly new artwork throughout, full colour, glossy paper. Shame it seems FFG don't know what a spellchecker is or how to proof read. For a book that was 2 months late on it's supposed release date, the production quality of the actual content is very very poor. Far too many very basic spelling mistakes and grammatical errors that wouldn't be acceptable in high school english class.

There is also a feeling throughout the book that there should be more. Almost as if large amounts have been cut or just left out. For example, the section on starships whilst large, only contains details for 8 hulls and limited fittings. It talks about turrets for shooting down ordinance etc... but then does not cover torpedoes, fighters or bombers at all. The new rules regarding achievments and the objective system are nice, but seem to only be partially explained. Kit is also limited (although there is a lot more stuff that will make Admech players happy).

As someone who bought the origional DL version of DH (before FFG took it over), I appreciate having a new version of the updated DH rules printed in this book - having to refer to the ereta and work out what the changes we was a nuisance. Some people however may object to the fact the rules are reprinted - although I do understand that this is a seperate game from DH (even if they are linked, and the RT rules give some details for switching DH chars to RT) and that reprinting the game rules was necessary to prevent people having to buy Dark Heresy in order to play RT.

All in all, 4 stars. Lovely artwork, more fluff, nice ideas and concepts that a GM can work on. But no 5 stars due to poor spelling and the feeling that the book could have been so much better (admittedly it may have had to have been double the page count).

A Success!5
As a regular GM for various Dark Heresy adventures, I must say that this is Fantasy Flight's best RPG book to date. The copy I received from Amazon has the fewest typos and insensibilities than any other rulebook I have ever seen and when compared to the 1st Edition Dark Heresy rulebooks, this is a dream success!

Fantasy Flight have learnt all the lessons that arose from the Dark Heresy rulebooks and have created a beautiful work of art, an excellent and easy to read rules system packed with new and exciting innovations that will dramatically increase both the fun and genius of DH and Rogue Trader. There are many fascinating things to read and understand. Rogue Trader is very different from Dark Heresy and yet continues existing rules and concepts to make it very accessible to both new and old Warhammer 40,000 Roleplayers.

This book seems to have had the cream of FF's writers, proof readers and illustrators at hand as it is simply magnificent. When compared to the new DH books such as the Haarlock Legacy Campaign (very poor in my opinion), it is clear to see where the budget and talent was being directed!

Overall an excellent ruleset and superb book! Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

Sadly, a disappointment.2
After Dark Heresy, it could be expected that this book would take a step foward from an already superior games title.
Unfortunately, this feels more like a step backwards.
Although the system contains many good ideas, the book feels sloppy and poorly excecuted.
The character advance tables are contradictory, the text is particularly full of typos and errors, and the rules for the space ship building and ship combat are lacking. The latter is a particular disappointment, considering how ship interaction is the biggest difference between this game setting and the DH one, and there is even a text-box stating such rules 'beyond the scope of this book'.
There are some really nice ideas, but the huge need of an errata in a book delayed for such a length of time makes these difficult to focus upon.
In summary, the performance of this book would make it an interesting supplement to the Dark Heresy universe, but it is a relatively weak book on it's own.
