Customer Reviews
Colourful, informative and fun!
Received this today and been reading quite a bit!
Very well written and colourful (important to me), with lots of useful information, not just records but reviews, histories, tips etc. It's like a condensed collection of all the good games magazines from 2007.
Importantly, the list of consultants used by Guinness is very impressive, with lots of well-known industry journalists/experts lending their writing experience to the articles, making it feel a lot more mature (I'm 30 BTW) and not just full of records and facts for children. Sometimes it feels like Edge, or more specifically the recent 100 Best Games book they released, which could be a good or bad thing depending on what you like.
All in all a great addition to anyone serious about their gaming, and wanting to know more about our favourite pastime, young or old.
A interesting read for the older, mature gamer's out there!
The Gunness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008 book is the first of it's kind and, has a lot of facts and records which I found to be intriguing.
One of the records which I was surprised to see is the longest prison sentence for playing a video game. Which was some idiot playing Tetris on his mobile on a aeroplane refusing to turn it off, as he was endangering peoples lives because his mobile it could interfere with the aeroplanes navigating computer systems. He was jailed for four months I bet he wishes he turned it off now.
For the newer console systems the book tells you the top five selling games for each one. Another interesting fact for me is that for every Nintendo system which has had a Mario Kart game released, it has become the best selling racing game for that console. There are many great pieces of information on many wonderful long running game series which are as follows: Zelda, Tomb Raidier, Grand Theft Auto, Resident Evil, Metroid, Castlevania, Metal Gear, Street Fighter, Tekken, Doom, Half-Life, Halo, Super Mario, Sonic, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, World Of Warcraft, Command & Conquer and many more.
One thing that I did find a little annoying at times, is that the book will give the wrong details of the console which a game was released for. Part from that a very good book on video games which goes nicely with, the Video Games Guide by Matt Fox and Game On!: The 50 Greatest Video Games Of All Time books which I own too.
Useful and Depressing! - Unless you are a games genius!
I love this!! But it actually makes me feel pretty awful.....as I can now see how appallingly bad I am at computer games...well compared to some of the amazing scores and feats in this book!
But it isnt just scores, there are lots of game related facts like best sellers, rarest games, most expensive games etc. And it covers lots of platforms, from Playstation 3 to Mega Drive to arcarde units to PC games (lots of Warcraft stuff there). Plenty of online links and records to look at too.
Did you know Halo 3 became the fastest selling pre-ordered game, with pre-sales of a whopping 1.7 million?? Fact!
Makes you wonder why they haven't done this sort of thing before. It will probably make you go and buy some games you won't have just to try and beat some scores!!
Great for any gamer!! Or people who like lists and facts!! Buy buy buy! And its shiny (you can't see that on the photo).
