Ridge racer 64
Well, I am sure many of us are starved of new 360 games so snapped this up, as I did! If, like me, you are a veteran of ridge racer, you will know exactly what to expect. Disappointingly, there is nothing new here, especially if you have played the PSP version. New tracks yes, but still very familiar. Of course, this is the best looking ridge ever, but so it should be considering the power its running on! One thing you cannot critisize is the longevity- the one player mode seems to go on forever (50+ hours is claimed) so you are getting reasonably good value I can't really comment on the Live racing, as when I tried it it was very jerky, maybe the connection was poor but I never have any probs with PGR3 so maybe there is an issue there. To sum up then, I would say it is a fun and playable game. It is not going to blow you away, but it is different enough to PGR to warrent a purchase. Have fun!

A stalwart of a game4
Ignore comparions with PGR for handling, not the same game. Where this game does excel is in longevity. Gamercard scores are hard to come by, lots of unlockable features, and the Explorer goes on for a very long time and indeed is very difficult, alot tricker than PGR in my opinion, I've done PGR on everything, having trouble even doing a single race in Expert mode! This game will last months and months if you want to complete it properly and then there's the online function, excellent racing etc. A very under rated game in my opinion.

POWER SLIDING HEAVEN!5
Ridge Racer 6 is what gaming is supposed to be about - FUN!

Too many games these days try to be far too serious and realistic, but the truth is they are still just games at the end of the day. Ridge Racer is a breath of fresh air and takes you back to the way racers used to be when they first appeared on the Sony Playstation 10 years ago.

The game is pick up and play, although a little practice is required to improve your power sliding technique, I'm pleased to say the ability is still there just as it was in Ridge Racer V on the PS2, to do 360 degree spins at full speed, in fact you can even do 3 consequetive 360 spins in this game, in the first person driving view that's a lot of fun.

So what's different this time around? well the game has stayed true to its roots, and is just the same kind of handling as in the past games, beautiful sweeping fast tracks, and various types of driftable cars, there are 3 categories, standard, mid and dynamic, each becoming more prone to drifting and therefore a little more erratic. There are 15 tracks you can race also in reverse making 30 tracks, and all are available from the start to race in single race mode if you prefer.
I don't really care for the career World mode they have, for unlocking more cars,it is a hexagonal maze they call the Ridge Racer universe, and you connect your route through a maze of hexagonals any way you choose, to reach the top hexagonal, if you beat certain races, you can unlock cars, when you reach the top hexagonal at 111, the universe expands yet again and more pop up, rather like a true universe, will it ever end?

As far as the games music goes, I might be in the minority here, but I actually like the music the Ridge Racer games have, a little cheesy, and arcadey, with it's Japanese electronic music, and in my opinion much more suited to driving than the dreadful stuff that Electronic Arts put into their games.

Out of all the racers on the 360, this is the one i've played the most, it is simply just more fun, PGR wasn't as good as PGR2, Most wanted was alright, but the career mode is just too long, but Ridge Racer is just a breath of fresh air, more games should take a leaf out of Ridge Racers book, in fact if you do like this game, you should definetely check out Outrun 2, and the forthcoming Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast, on the original Xbox, it is more powersliding fun, around picturesque tracks, in Various Ferrari sportscars.

Now let's see a Ridge Racer 7 for the launch of the PS3, Namco!
