Honest, Exciting, Funny and Saddenning. The Hitmans story is Amazing.5
After ordering this book from overseas, i was looking forward to reading it. After just literally finishing it about 20 minutes ago, i have to say i see things in a totally different way to what i did before i read the book. Ive always known Bret was an intelligent person, but compared to other wrestling books, this one actually feels like hes sitting next to you telling you his story. Id even go on record by saying that this is better than Mick Foleys book, and believe me, thats a massive compliment!

Brets story begins with his childhood and then it moves onto his stampede days. I found that the most detail and in depth stories found in the book are from this period of his life. Its totally clear to the reader that Brets childhood and early youth/adulthood are amoung his favourite memories and experiences and he is more than willing to share a few stories along the way! The book moves onto the pain he felt whilst being held back in the WWF/E for so long, and the mischief he would get into along with the Anvil (Jim Neildhart, Brets brother in law and tag team partner at the time). I found myself laughing at the very image of the boys picking up a drunken (and near enough naked!) Vince McMahon and tossing him around like a cruiserweight! This book also lets the reader know just how much of a 'boyo' Bret was (and still is!) in his youth! Lots and lots of young ladies.

The book moves on from Brets early days as Intercontinental and then Worlds champion in the WWF/E and onto the feuds and 'kliqs' which were slowly forming behind the scenes. His feud with Shawn Micheals is well documented in this book, and Bret seems disapointed that Shawn ended up developing into the person he did, because Bret seemed to have seen him as a good friend in the early days.

Brets explination into the Montreal Screwjob was fascinating and it really had me hooked. He does portray Vince as somewhat of an evil genious at times, and someone who he looked upto, but much like his relationship with Shawn Micheals, i truly belive that Bret is sorry that Montreal ever happened and it could of so easily been avoided. I think the day Vince turned his back on Bret was the day that Bret became bitter toward the buisness and really, who can blame him. Bret made Vince millions upon millions of dollars and fans and Vince dumped him out like yesterdays rubbish!

To me, the day Bret left the WWF/E was the day that the company lost all ties to their past which were very innocent and child friendly, they lost all of their respect to the past and they totally changed their image, to the point where a Bret Hart fan wouldnt want to watch the show.

Bret quite quickly skips over his time in WCW, but does offer a few insights and stories. Most people who know about wrestling, know how stupid the WCW was behind the scenes, but some of the things Bret talks about in the book regarding the booking (or planning of the shows) are beyond stupid and its no wonder the WCW sank like a stone.

The amount of death and tragedy in this book is overwhelming and extremely sad to read. I wont spoil it for the people who havent read yet, but basically, Bret Hart has a tremendous amount of courage and its a small wonder he himself is alive today, as the grief and bad luck he has had would kill off many lesser men.

Unfortuantely i think theres too many things in this book which seem rushed and edited, i really think it could of been at least another 150/200 pages long, especially considering he only mentions his induction into the hall of fame once and the deaths of Benoit, Crush and others are only again, mentioned once. I hope that by the time a paperback version has been released it will include 2 or 3 extra chapters to document the time and the happenings which have passed since he wrote the book. Nevertheless this book is nothing short of amazing and is just like Brets in ring work. Excellence

Bret Hart was, is and always will be my personal hero and this book is a fitting, if not at times, brief, testiment to the career of one of the best to ever lace up a pair of wrestling boots. I recommend this book to anyone whos a fan of Bret or not, as its just that good!

The best book there is, was and ever will be!5
Forget being the best wrestling book ever i would go as far to say in my opinion its one of the best books ive read.

Having been a huge fan of Bret since the early 90's, i found this book great to learn about his earlier roots and childhood.

The book had me hooked from start to end! I really enjoyed reading about his days in Stampede wrestling and some of the practical jokes the wrestlers played made me laugh out loud.

You realise that Bret was and always be the heart of that business, and a true ambassador for wrestling in general.

What happened to him in Montreal in 97 was unfortunate but he paints a vivid picture of what happened in that time of his career very well.

Some of my friends and family who are not into wrestling have quickly flicked through it, and desperately want to read it now!

Its not a book just for wrestling fans but for NON wrestling fans too, and gives a great insight for people who dont know the inner goings on in the Pro wrestling world, with this book doubters of wrestling and people who call it "fake" can really see its very much more real than people think.

I cant recommend this book highly enough.

BRET HITMAN HART IS SIMPLY.... THE BEST THERE IS, THE BEST THERE WAS AND THE BEST THERE EVER WILL BE.

A true icon and a legend both in the ring and out of it.

Looking back at familys life in wrestling5
Bret Hart has been as honest as he can be within the pages of this book. With nothing to hide from and no fear of a backlash from the industry it is a clear and candid view of his and his families life in wrestling along with his trials and tribulations which befell his family him and his family in the later years.
Vince Mcmahon (WWE) wanted to publish this book but wanted to alter the content and various references but Bret refused to basically re-write his book or his history and what we have instead is probably one of the most honest and frank accounts which is riveting. I did not put this book down until the end reading it in one sitting, it was that good.
