Excellent4
Serial walker and "AW" groupie, Julia Bradbury dons her boots and rucksack again to tackle Wainwright's famous 192 mile Coast to Coast walk from St Bee's in Cumbria to Yorskshire's Robin Hood's Bay. I really enjoyed her previous walking series in the Lake District and the Railway Walks and fans of those will not be disappointed here. Highlights for me include the familiar territory of the lakes, the ridge of Nine Standards with it's unexplained stone obelisks and then Swaledale, scarred by the mines but with nature reclaiming it's stone, still attractive and very dramatic in parts.

Julia Bradbury has made walking programmes her own in recent years and she has a lot of energy and enthusiasm for the landscape, it's people and Wainwright himself which makes this series a joy to watch. She presents well and with good humour although her interviewing technique will not give Alan Whicker many sleepless nights. Each programme has just the right balance of scenery, history and commentary. AW makes frequent cameo appearances from archive footage and the trademark voiceovers (not him, I assume) of passages from his books greatly add to the atmosphere. I probably enjoyed this more than the Lakes series due to the variety of terrain and "JB"s more relaxed presenting style. She has learned that you do not need to try and come out with profound statements when confronted with stunning views; they often speak better for themselves...

I've completed the Wealdway twice (Gravesend to Eastbourne), a shorter water to water walk and knew exactly how Julia felt when she put her feet in the sea at Robin Hood's Bay. Nice one JB :o)

All good stuff, for those who like to walk or those who just like to watch people walk on this green and pleasant land. Highly recommended.

A must for walkers5
I have been an admirer of the Skyworks programmes for some time and this series is another excellent example of how an outdoors programme should be presented. The C2C is one of the most popular long-distance walks in the world and this DVD will attract even more visitors.
Julia Bradbury's skills as a presenter are displayed to full advantage and the camera work is superb. The series captures the essence of what is a tough walk, as well as showing some of the best scenery in the country.
If there is a slight criticism, it is that more could have been made of the actual walking but I understand that the film crew was hampered by appalling weather during filming.
I was able to experience the skills of both Julia and the film crew first hand as I made a brief appearance in programme three. As someone who had completed the C2C four times and written a book - Ancient Feet - telling the very funny tale of five men in their 60's doing the C2C, I was invited to be in the series, and I was really impressed by the professionalism of all involved.
The DVD makes an ideal record of the walk for those who have done it and a nice taster for those who aspire to do it.

Simple but effective4
Starting in the north west on the coast of the Irish sea Julia Bradbury follows Wainwrights walk across England to the North East and the North sea. Setting out from St.Bee's in Cumbria, a quiet town that almost seems deserted, the walk crosses many national parks and some of Englands most beautiful countryside and finishes at Robin Hoods bay on the Yorkshire coast.
With a cast of various characters walking or living on, or making their living on the moors we see the fading remnants of a lifestyle that was all but gone in Wainwrights own time. The scenery is worth the entrance price alone and Bradbury is an affable host who doesn't insist on talking over everything and who seems to have a sympathetic feel both for Wainwright & those she meets. Also not to be forgotten is the excellent aerial photography which shows the isolated beauty of this walk in all it's majesty.
Another very enjoyable release that sits well with the superb 'Wainwright walks' series.
The DVD comes with minimal extras, just Biogs of Wainwright & Bradbury & a picture gallery as well as subtitles.
