    Making Samsung DVD-HD860 Region Free5
I have just purchased this DVD player and was disappointed to find it's not region free. However thanks to a little digging I've found this code which works 100% on my machine:

This works with the Samsung remote supplied with the DVD player.

Turn on the Player with no disc on the tray. The tv screen and the dvd lcd will display "No Disk"

    2. Press the "Repeat" key on the Samsung remote control

    3. Press the keys: "5 7 5 3 8" on the remote. Number 2 appears on the screen for a short time.

    4. Press "9". Number 9 is displayed on the screen.

    5. Press the "Open/close" button in the remote. The tray will open. Leave it open for a few seconds.

    6. Just press the "On/off" button in the remote.

    7. You now have a multi-region dvd player!!

Hope that helps people out :)

Oh and other than that I have been very happy with the player, a great bit of kit that I would definitely recommend.

    That's the way, uh-uh, I like it, uh-uh...5
I've been adding to my collection of DivX movies a lot lately, and I used to watch them through the Media Player on my Xbox. Sadly, my Xbox has decided to give up on me so I needed a player to watch them on, and as I like the look of Samsung's range at the moment, I went for this. There are cheaper DivX players around without HDMI upscaling, but as I'm thinking of getting a HD ready TV soon, I figured it would be smart to get this.
It's a nice looking player, the remote is easy to use, and the menus easy to navigate. The region code remote hack on this page works perfectly well. When it comes to DivX movies, it seems to have trouble playing any that are on CD-r discs. From a DVD-r they run fine, but mine had an eppy when I tried a CD-r, although that might be down to the discs that I use. You should ignore the review complaining about DivX movies playing inside a black 4:3 ratio frame. If you take a couple of seconds to explore the menu you will find that you can select one of three output modes : They are 4:3 widescreen, 4:3 pan and scan, or wide.
I haven't tried the HDMI option out yet, but it's right that you don't get a lead with it, but that's not unusual these days. Don't buy one from Comet or Currys, because they'll insist you sell your soul (and charge you the Earth).

An excellent purchase... Thank you Samuel Sung.

this hdmi upscaling DOES NOT include an HDMI lead as described in the description it comes with a bog standard red white and yellow component lead. Aside from this when you get an hdmi for the player the results are amazing when used in conjunction with an HD Ready television i own a Samsung LE26R41BDX and the picture is top dog.
