Manufacturer's Description
Studio quality sound and images, plus a wealth of extra information on a CD-sized disc: DVD will revolutionise your TV viewing. Enhanced audio and video tracks, extra footage or multiple language soundtracks are now customary on any new DVD, alongside six-channel Dolby Digital sound. As a pioneer of DVD technology, Toshiba has ensured that this DVD player is a star performer.
The Toshiba SD-360E DVD Player is a marvel for the money. Ultra-sleek and slim, on top of the standard DVD player features, Toshiba have crammed in DivX, MP3 and JPEG format playback (handy if you have albums of images, music or downloaded programmes to playback on your standard television).
And, whether connecting to a conventional television or a high-end plasma or LCD, Toshiba provide options for the best picture quality with RGB scart, component video and HDMI outputs, complete with video resolution upscaling, to deliver the best picture with high-definition plasma and LCD displays.

Unreliable
I've now had one of these for about 18 months. I don't know whether I expect too much from my DVD players, but I'd consider being able to make it to the end of the film as being a rather important factor in the operation of a device used for watching films. I bought this player for several reasons, including price, upscaling, Divx playback and the fact that I could use my Toshiba TV remote to control it. I think it'll be the last budget player I buy though.
I might be one of the unfortunate few, but I've found my player will freeze whilst playing back divx (which plays fine on other players), and will often deteriorate audio and video towards the end of a standard DVD film. I'm so used to it now, I make sure I only watch the first 60-90 mins of a film and then finish the rest off at another time. This, as you can imagine, gets slightly annoying. I've had a high spec Toshiba DVD/HDD Recorder in the past and found it worked perfectly. Unfortunately there seems to be a gulf of difference in quality between Tosh's low end and high end gear. Shame.
Dodgy blue light is a little too much too.
Not great.
First off, this machine renders superb picture and sound, much better than any other DVD player I have so far come across, so for that it is certainly worth the price. Sadly, it comes without one of the basic fuctions relevant to all DVD players, and one which has featured on every player I have owned over the past seven years, and the exclusion of which is therefore pretty inexcusable - that of 'resume playback'. In other words, if you are halfway through a movie and for whatever reason you must stop watching the film, and might have to remove the disc or switch the player off, when you re-enter the disc or just switch the player back on with the disc still inside, instead of jumping back to the place on the disc where you left off you must go through all the warnings and screen menus all over again and find for yourself where you last switched off. Pretty primitive for a modern player. And just tonight, two months after I purchased this machine, I am beginning to experience playback problems - discs which I have had no problem with at all before have now got scrambled pictures and are pausing for no reason, etc. All in all, if you are something of a perfectionist like myself, I would seek another brand - Toshiba clearly are not up to scratch.
You pays yer money...
First off this player has a smaller footprint than most and feels very light but then it costs well under £[...].
Mine was supplied with a composite connector which you will have to use to access the player's on-screen menu and then select the HDMI option. If you attempt an HDMI connection from the outset it just won't work.
Set on 1080i via HDMI the picture is pretty good; fine if you must have HDMI but remember it's a basic player so don't expect too much from it.
