Manufacturer's Description
Hitachi Full HD 1920 X 1080
Our full HD panel displays full high-definition video in all its detail and beauty. The IPS Alpha Panel offers enhanced color reproduction, contrast, and moving images, while its wide viewing angle dazzles from any direction. Plus, its redesigned color filter reproduces an even wider range of color.
Color reproduction, contrast, moving images: the IPS Alpha Panel has improved all of these. It reduces the changes in brightness and tone that viewing from different angles sometimes causes, offering clearer images from any angle. Plus, the improved color filter greatly increases the range for color reproduction.
Resolution
HD-Ready TVs need to be able to display pictures at the resolution set by the new standard. Resolution can be described either in terms of "lines of resolution," or pixels. The resolution you see on your TV depends on two factors, namely the resolution of your display and the resolution of the video signal you receive. Because video images are always rectangular in shape, there is both horizontal resolution and vertical resolution to consider.
SDTV vs HDTV signal
Standard definition digital broadcasts (SDTV) are currently available across most European countries, either via satellite, cable or over-the-air transmissions. SDTV transmissions are broadcast at 576i50 which is 576 visible lines with an interlaced scan at 50 times a second resulting in a full screen refresh rate of 25 times per second.
There are two main formats for HDTV, namely 720p (i.e. a 720 line picture progressively scanned 50 times a second) and 1080i (1080 lines interlaced at 50 cycles per second). The picture resolution of a high definition digital TV is about 4 times greater than a typical 576 line TV picture.
Vertical resolution: This is the number of horizontal lines that can be resolvedin an image from top to bottom. Digital HD television operates at a resolution of either 720 or 1080 lines. This is the mostimportant resolution as it is most noticeable tothe human eye.
Horizontal resolution: This is the number of vertical lines that can be resolved from one side of an image to the other. Horizontal resolution varies depending onthe source. The number of horizontal pixels is not quite so critical as verticalresolution as it is not as obvious to the human eye during normal viewing.

Wow, fantastic service & great TV Pics
Ordered my TV in the small hours Mon night Tuesday morning, it arrived Thursday morning using just the Amazon free delivery service. Hunted around for a long time because funds were limited and I wanted a 1080 set, I couldn't find anyone to compete with this deal for a 37" set, what a bargain! The set produces pics that absolutely sparkle on both the internal Freeview and my own Satellite tuner, the inbuilt freeview is brilliant compared to my old standalone freeview tuner, in fact, surprisingly there isn't much to choose between the satellite and freeview in terms of picture quality. The inbuilt freeview is a doddle to set up and the remote is quick and easy to use, channel hopping holds no problems either. I've just ordered a combination DVD player with upscale to 1080 and a theatre surround kit. Just watched one of my standard DVD's viewed using my old DVD player which only cost around £24, the difference/improvement in picture quality is a remarkeable. Overall a quality TV combined with excellent service, early day's I know but unpacking and set up only took a few minutes, setting the pictures to my exact liking took a little longer but was all done via the remote control and was very easy, I wll update this review after my next piece of kit arrives and I have viewed DVD in 1080 format. In the meantime I am very impressed and really pleased with the whole experience.
P.S. the audio is pretty good too, more on that when I try the theatre kit.

Hitachi L37V01U Review Nice tv--shame I got the duff one!
Ordered mine a week ago and its now regretfully being returned to Amazon as it will not recognise any inputs on either scart or component inputs. It wouldn't recognise my dvd player/recorder and another freeview box, or 2 vcr's I tried on either scart connection.Several scart leads were used to elliminate any problems there I add. The only way I could get a picture was through the side AV connector. Not exactly ideal and wasn't what I got the tv for. Connecting a games console to the lower COMPONENT inputs also didn't work on mine. I now await to see how good Amazon are with refunds. The Menus in the set-up would not allow me to source these inputs either. I was told by Hitachi there appeared to be a fault on the tv..ok maybee I had a bad one?. I am not paying Hitachi call out fees, which aint exactly cheap by any means nowadays, for some dude to look at it when its like 4 days old either. That to me sucks and says a lot for guarantees. Be aware of this!.
Shame cos on the whole the picture quality was not too bad and I really looked forwards to getting it and playing dvd's and games on it.
Also note, all the connections on this model, with exception to a side AV,S-VIDEO,HEADPHONE are located at the bottom of the tv set facing downwards, this makes it very very awkward to remove and reconnect leads after you have positioned the tv set! To me doing this is a bad design.
As I say I may have been unlucky in just getting a duff one but I can't find many, if any reviews on this model on the web at present so just be aware.
My verdict: Looked ok, picture ok on a decent aerial and Freeview, though not fully tried as I couldn't connect a dvd properly. Remote was a pain in it's not the most easy to use and locked up (maybee due to a fault I add) and those awkward awkward connectors stuck underneath!!
If you can get a working one then at the price I am sure it's a reasonable tv set, however I am not taking the chance on a replacement and will seek out another brand. Hopefully mine was a one off reference any problems and NOT a common issue!.
Brilliant product for the money.
Excellent picture quality. Remote takes a while to get used to when swapping between Sky and Free-view. Plays Blu-Ray films in awesome quality and PS3 games look fantastic. SD quality seems to have vastly improved with a decent HDMI cable. Child lock is great, no more on off on off. Stand is a little wobbly though. Delivery was prompt and the delivery driver was great at bringing it into the house for me. Well worth the money and would definitely recommend. *Thumbs Up*
