Manufacturer's Description
LCD WXGA+ display 1440 x 900p
This WXGA+ display with state-of-the-art LCD screen technology gives you widescreen HD resolution of 1440 x 900p pixels. It produces brilliant flicker-free progressive scan pictures with optimum brightness and superb colours. This vibrant and sharp image will provide you with an enhanced viewing experience.

Integrated Digital DVB-T tuner
The integrated DVB-T tuner lets you receive Digital Terrestrial TV to watch or record. This means you do not need an additional set top box and also the additional cables.

HD Ready
Enjoy the exceptional picture quality of a true High Definition TV signal and be fully prepared for HD sources like HDTV broadcast, Blu-ray DVD or HDVD. HD ready is a protected label that offers picture quality beyond that of progressive scan. It conforms to strict standards laid out by EICTA to offer a HD screen that displays the benefits of resolution and picture quality of a High Definition TV signal. It has a universal connection for both analogue and uncompressed Digital connection of DVI or HDMI, supporting HDCP. It can display 720p, and 1080i signals at 50 and 60Hz.

3D Combfilter
The 3D comb filter separates brightness and colour signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-colour, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion - all of which detract from your viewing pleasure. The 3D digital comb filter performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the colour from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl. The result is a razor sharp image.

Incredible Surround™
Incredible Surround is an audio technology from Philips that dramatically magnifies the sound field to immerse you in the audio. Using state-of-the-art electronic phase shifting, Incredible Surround mixes sounds from left and right in such a way that it expands the virtual distance between the two speakers. This wider spread greatly enhances the stereo effect and creates a more natural sound dimension. Incredible Surround allows you to experience total surround with greater depth and width of sound, without the use of additional speakers.

Compact and slim design
This design style emphasises a slim, compact look that saves space and fits in anywhere.

Dual HDMI input
HDMI makes an uncompressed digital RGB connection from the source to the screen. By eliminating conversion to an analogue signal, it delivers an unblemished image. The non-degraded signal reduces flicker and leads to a clearer picture. HDMI intelligently communicates the highest output resolution with the source device. The HDMI input is fully backward compatible with DVI sources but includes digital audio. HDMI uses HDCP copy protection. With 2 HDMI inputs you can connect multiple HD sources, for instance an HD set top box, and a Blu-ray player. Your TV is fully prepared for the HD future.

    Very good for the money5
This set gives a really good picture and overall performs very well indeed. Easy to set up and works as a PC monitor as well. Just make sure to adjust the output of your graphics card to the native resolotion!

I did so want to like this TV ...1
This set has a great spec (HD support, dual HDMI, etc.) and a great modern look and the other reviews looked good, so I took the plunge. Unfortunately it has been a massive disappointment.

First of all the factory picture settings are hopeless for enjoyable viewing and some extensive adjustment is necessary, but then I found that the settings simply aren't saved 4 times out of 5 - once switched off (watch that carbon footprint!) the factory settings make a reappearance.
This is where the flimsy and poorly laid out remote control started to annoy. It really feels cheap and nasty for a TV of this price and brand.

And now the biggest disappointment of all - I tried watching it in low light.
I'm sure 90% of these sets will end up in bedrooms and people like me will want to watch them in bed with the lights off. So why then did Philips decide to stick a large green LED on the front of the unit? The LED is lit whenever when the unit is on, and serves no useful purpose whatsoever (it goes red when on standby which at least makes some sense). Unfortunately, so much light is produced that it distracts the viewer from the image on the screen when watching in a darkened room.
Worse still, the screen on my unit was abysmal at handling black. There are even a regions of `bleed' (I don't know if there is a technical term to describe this) - much lighter areas at the top and bottom edges of the screen that are clearly visible in low light conditions or when a dark picture is being displayed. Maybe my unit was faulty or damaged? This problem is so obvious that I find it hard to believe that Philips would allow it to pass their quality control checks.

These points apart, the picture quality is quite sharp and the sound is good for a TV of this type and size ... but for another £20 you could do what I've done and order a 20" Sony Bravia (a fantastic price on Amazon)!

Thanks Amazon for saving the day with a great returns process.

Good picture and audio, well worth the money.4
I have had this TV for about a month now and really can't fault it in terms of picture and audio quality. In fact there is very little to criticise.

The unit itself is quite stylish, with a black glossy surround to the screen. The speakers are incorporated into a perforated panel long the bottom, but this blends in well and isn't really noticeable. For the best effect, mount the TV on the supplied stand, as this has a very classy (and heavy) glass base and provides the complete package.

Setting up is a simple affair, with the now standard auto tune and with it having a built-in Freeview tuner you will get the appropriate digital channels. I certainly found that this set picked up more channels than the previous one I had, so the tuner seems to be more `sensitive' than some. There are some default picture and audio settings, so at the press of a button on the remote you can quickly find one that suits you. If not, then there are numerous adjustments that can be made and saved as a `personal' default. There is also and option for the set to detect 4:3 or 16:9 display and switch automatically, or you can manually do this. The remote itself is bit lightweight but the layout of the buttons is fairly logical and easy to use. Some of the more obscure functions have symbols that aren't immediately obvious as to what they do, but a quick read through the manual will fill in the blanks.

In use the picture quality is very good and as long as you feed it a quality signal you won't have to worry about any blockiness. Colour and brightness are well controlled and generally the picture never gets to that washed out effect some sets display. The audio is very good for such a small TV and remains distortion free beyond a normal listening level. There is an option to have a `surround sound' effect but in use I found this not very effective.

The only criticism I have is that the menu structure can be confusing and is not that intuitive. If you have owned Philips products before in the A/V area then you are most probably familiar with this type of thing, as Philips have never been that good at designing easy to use menus. In the EPG for example you can page down through the channels but if you want to get back to BBC1 (in position 1) you can't do this in a single button press. For most of the basic stuff it is fine, and maybe I have been spoilt with having Sky+ and its EPG, but it is a minor annoyance at times.

It's worth four and a half stars, but as it has to be a whole number then four it has to be.
