Manufacturer's Description
Password Journal has room for all your secret thoughts, what's happened at school and who you really fancy! And, you don't even need a key to lock it all away - it's voice activated. Just speak into the journal to record your password and all your secrets are safe.
It only opens to your voice, so even if your sneaky bro does overhear your secret password, he still can't get into the journal. And, with the intruder alert device, you'll know exactly what he's been up to. Once inside, use your voice to control the date, time and alarm. Use the UV pen and light to keep all your secrets safe and if an intruder tries to access your journal the intruder alarm will sound.

takes perseverance to set up
I can see what it is about this item that frustrates so many kids and parents alike so here is some advice:
1. DON'T put in batteries until you have read and understood the instructions about setting password/time and date. You only have 20 seconds from when the batteries go in to start the setup function. Instructions are a bit vague so re-read them several times.
2. Make sure the child speaks SLOWLY and CLEARLY, DIRECTLY into the microphone.
In the end I did the set up using my 7 year old daughter's chosen password and my voice and she seems to be able to use it OK. She was much too frustrated to continue. So much for voice recognition!
3. Everything is set using your voice so say any numbers you have to enter (such as time, date, year as single digit numbers . Say "ZERO" for 0. So if the time is 11.02 in the morning say "1" "1" "zero" "2" , (just like leaving an answering machine message it will beep in between so make sure you wait for each beep). It will ask you if this is a.m, say "yes" or "no" It should then tell you the time and when prompted say "yes" or "no" to confirm.
4. If in doubt, remove the batteries (count to 20) re insert batteries and use the RESET button on the back to start again. Ours wouldn't go through the setup function properly I had to tell it to "Change" or "change time" until I finally got it working. It took ages to set up but seems OK and functions well now.
5. You may find that it doesn't understand you the first time around. Keep trying, tell it to "change". You may have to repeat instructions over.
All in all very frustrating to set up, I had to run through the steps over and over until I got it right. If you are patient enough it will work. Haven't tried the alarm function as it took so long just to get the date and time right!!
Password Journal
The fact that the voice-recognotion password facility simply does not
recognise the owner's voice is a massive disfunction, and simply defeats
the whole object. The product description is,therefore, misleading and
false.
A HUGE Disappointment.
Password Journal works on the principle of voice recognition. A password is recorded and then - in theory anyway - the plastic unit will open only to the sound of your voice. Except it doesn't - well, it does on occasion and at random. This was bought for my daughter who was extremely excited about it. Unfortunately, in her determined - but unsuccessful - efforts to open the unit she resorted to shouting the password very loudly, rendering the whole notion of a "secret" password pretty much invalid as it could be heard all around the house! The bulky plastic unit contains a cheap pen, light, and a basic blank notebook that could be bought for a few pence at a local shop. My daughter, as young as she is, recognised this as a bad purchase and was happy to see it returned. One important lesson learned though: don't believe everything you see on TV.
