The Intempo KT-01 DAB Digital Radio is the future of radio in rock-solid coloured clothing. With DAB digital radio you don't get the hiss and fade you used to get with analogue radio transmissions, and its reception is also far more resistant to adverse weather conditions and illegal/pirate radio broadcasts.

This digital revolution also means that you can get more stations broadcast to you within the same radio spectrum that you could with FM, giving you so much more listening choice that you had in the old days. And not only do you get radio as you're used to it DAB transmissions also transmit data which can be displayed on your DAB radio's neat display screen.

Glossary of terms:

DAB - Stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting. Analogue radio is transmitted by placing the audio onto a carrier. If there is any interference or static with the wanted signal then it will be heard on the receiver's speaker. Digital however is transmitted in the form of a digital stream. The decoder in the radio knows what data is needed to re-construct the original signal, so any other unwanted signal is discarded.

Ensemble/Multiplex - Unlike analogue systems, digital radio groups together separate signals from a number of stations and transmits them as a complete, interleaved data stream. This is known as an Ensemble or Multiplex. Up to ten digital services can be transmitted in a single multiplex. This allows several programmes or services to be transmitted on a single frequency.

Service - Radio stations e.g. Radio 1 are known as services when talking about DAB transmissions.

Bit rate - In simple terms when talking about music the higher the bit rate is the better the sound quality will be. For near CD quality audio128Kbps (kilo bits per second) will suffice. So stations that are continually playing music etc use 128Kbps. Stations that generally only transmit speech etc. such as news stations can use 64Kbps as speech doesn't require such a high bit rate.

RDS - Radio data system. The broadcaster can include data with their transmission. This data can then be displayed on the user receiver in a scrolling text format. The Data can include information such as station name and traffic announcements etc.

Highly recommended!
DAB radio offers the obsessives amongst us a change to indulge our audio passions 24 hours a day. Whether you want classic comedy, literary readings and dramatisations, rock music, pop music, classical, sports commentaries etc. DAB radio meets your needs. To really enjoy these broadcasts so much depends upon your radio and this one is a terrific piece of equipment. It is quite compact but somehow manages to give the beautifully clear, rich sound you would normally expect to get only from much larger speakers. It is very easy and quick to set up, operation is simplicity itself and the whole package is extremely user-friendly. It copes beautifully with FM stations too, and gives you a chance to preset 4 DAB and 4 FM stations with very little effort. The built-in radio alarm is an added bonus and is, in my experience, totally reliable, so you can throw away (or should I say recycle?) your old clock radio. Highly recommended and a bargain at this price!

SIMPLICITY!!
Just bought this radio, & I'm so pleased I did. I've suffered for years with FM bad reception, and I'd almost given up listening to the radio, as it was so annoying. I've used this radio for almost 2 days now & it's fabulous! It's changed my life! And so easy & simple to use.

A really solid feeling bit of kit with simple concise setup instructions. This was obtained for use by an elderly person with failing eyesight and technophobia! Once we established that the pre-set buttons were 'buttons' and not 'sliders'... no problems.
Reception is excellent, provided he leaves the aerial alone and he's very pleased. Thank you Intempo. I shall look out for your product name in future.
