Could be the worst film ever made
Martin Sheen is the headline star in this fabulously awful movie. It is almost worth buying just to see how bad it is. Every western cliche is here, with the added advantage of ghastly acting from a host of no names who do their best. If you have ever been to a country fair and seen the 'western' shows put on by rank amateurs who just love firing blank pistols then you've seen this movie. Hopalong Cassidy seeks to stop the man in the black hat [no really!] from laying waste to the west. Of course Hopalong has the advantage of magic gloves that make him the fastest gun around. [Yes, you read that right. Magic gloves]. The villain steals them. But can he beat Hopalong, when Hopalong has right on his side? [Wake up at the back there, this is serious!]
The director is the son of Francis Ford Coppola, director of the magnificent Apocalypse Now. He helped his son get the movie made.
This movie will haunt the Coppola family for ever.
Never Judge a DVD by it's Cover
Director is the son of Francis Ford Coppola (Christopher) and the headline stars are Martin Sheen and Robert Carradine. The DVD cover (front and back) shows exciting and promising western scenes. So far it looks a promising film.
Reading the plot on the back of the case and alarm bells start to ring. A "Stranger" with magic gloves?? A hero called Hopalong Cassidy and his arch nemisis a "mysterious man in black," called Tex??
So onto the film. Our headline stars are not really part of the film Martin Sheen simply tells his lame duck of a story to Carradine while a bunch of actors i've never heard of act (only because they won't publish what it really was), there way through a truly terrible film.
Every single wesrern cliche is in this film and the one liners and tough talk is terrible. Hopalomg Cassidy looks as if he's turned up for a fancy dress party and spends the whole film looking as if he's going to burst out laughing.
The final shoot out scene starts as a quick draw competition and ends up looking like theatrics from a county fair.
I'm not sure if Coppola made this film to take the rise out of the Western genre but that's what he's done.
I nearly didn't review this film cringing at the thought of having to give it 1 star but i had to let you guys know how bad it is.
I gave this movie to my local charity shop and it is still there now.
western
The film is advertised as a Marty Robbins movie, this is not true.although Marty Robbins did make a film with the same title long before this film was made.
The film itself is ok.
