Synopsis
Features the spoof comedies: MEET THE SPARTANS, EPIC MOVIE and DATE MOVIE

MEET THE SPARTANS – Writers/producers/directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer (DATE MOVIE, EPIC MOVIE) use the film 300 as the basis for this spoof film. Born to be the perfect Spartan, Leonidas (Sean Maguire, EASTENDERS) faces numerous trials en route to becoming a man, including a face-off with the penguin from HAPPY FEET. Once he has proven himself, Leonidas not only becomes king, but also marries the phenomenally attractive (and slightly loose) Margot (Carmen Electra, BAYWATCH). When Leonidas learns that Persia's King Xerxes (Ken Davitian, BORAT) plans to make Sparta his own, he has his captain (Kevin Sorbo, HERCULES) recruit Sparta's finest and prepare them for battle against invading Persian forces. Unfortunately, that amounts to only 13 half-naked men with painted-on abs who literally prance to their destination. To make matters worse, Spartan councilman Traitoro (Diedrich Bader) is, well, a traitor.

EPIC MOVIE – From Jason Friedberg and Aaron Setzer (DATE MOVIE, SCARY MOVIE) comes this everything-in-the-kitchen-sink, blender-set-to-grind comedy, which pokes fun at big crowd-pleasers like WILLIE WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, SNAKES ON A PLANE, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, X-MEN, NACHO LIBRE, and THE DA VINCI CODE, among others. The loose plot involves a gang of teen orphans whose trip inside Wonka’s candy factory leads them to a Narnia-style wardrobe adventure. Jennifer Coolidge is the evil White Bitch they have to tangle with in this new land, and Fred Willard plays Aslo, the lion. Scene-stealing Crispin Glover plays the Wonka-be, David Carradine breakdances, and the vivacious Carmen Elektra morphs enticingly in her X-MEN-style blue body paint. A bevy of eerie look-alikes pose as Paris Hilton, Anna Paquin, Samuel Jackson, and P Diddy, among others.

DATE MOVIE – This send-up of romantic comedies is directed by SCARY MOVIE screenwriters Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, and features the comedic talents of Jennifer Coolidge, Fred Willard, and BUFFY's Allyson Hannigan.

Customer Reviews

2 hits and 1 miss3
Firstly, I WOULD recommend any lovers of the gross-out parody genre to buy this trilogy. For one thing, it's cheaper to buy all 3 at once than buy any of them separately, or at least it was when I bought the DVD...

I loved 'Epic Movie' and 'Date Movie'. The former was genuinely funny in parts (reminded me a lot of the 'Scary Movie' films) and actually managed to make most of the seemingly-random cameos and characters work. The latter, although it relied on every 'date movie' cliche (as was the point), I actually did care about what happened to the main character by the end of the movie: it did manage to combine an element of emotion with humour. A BIG PLUS was the casting of Alyson Hannigan of 'Buffy' fame in 'Date Movie', and 'American Pie's 'Stifler's Mom' in both films, who both out-acted and much were funnier than the rest of the cast.

BUT as for 'Meet the Spartans'? I truly wanted to like it. Honestly, I did. I love '300' and was pleased to see a relatively-unknown British actor (Sean Maguire) take the lead. But the vast majority was simply stunningly unfunny... mostly when it had scenes dominated by Carmen Electra, I must say. Plus the extended 'push the Persians into the pit' scene became tedious and cruel, rather than funny. I had hoped that Kevin Sorbo's later career would feature films better than this.

All the same, I'd recommend you buy this DVD, if sprayed on pecs, yellow snow jokes, occasional mild nudity and fart jokes are your thing: who knows, you might find 'Meet the Spartans' funnier than I did!
