CD Description
Long-delayed 2CD collection from Mr. Rogers Nelson, aka thepurple prince of pop, compiles some of the biggest hits from his tenure at Warner Bros. on disc one, and ultra-rare 12"extended dance remixes on disc two. This is a good introduction to Prince's classic older material and fans have hailedthe reissue of the hard-to-find vinyl sides, the originals of which have been known to change hands for several hundreddollars.
Customer Reviews
Just grab it!!
A must have for all Prince fans and an interesting collection of songs for who wants to discover his music.
It's a 2cd-set. The first cd contains lots of Prince classics, from 'I wanna be your lover'to 'When doves cry', from 'Alphabet St' to 'Nothing compares 2 U'.
But it's the 2nd cd that deserves more attention. You'll find here many of the finest 12" versions/remixes of songs like 'Kiss', 'Let's go crazy', 'Pop life', 'Cream'. Many of them were previously unreleased on cd format.
Last but not least, all of the songs have been digitally remastered for the occasion!!

Ultimate? Is this the last ever Prince?
I think not... his latest album '3121' would suggest Prince is so back (of course for us die-hards he never really went away). So, the Purple Paisley God rides high once more, in the US at least, and to mark the occasion those insatiable executives at Warners have packaged us up another greatest hits. And great packaging it is, with it's ace inlay fold-out documenting Prince's Warner-years singles-sleeves.
This 'Ultimate' anthology has glaring omissions, but to be fair any Prince collection will. It's peculiar why they chose to include the full version of 'Controversy' (fab as it is) but only the edited singles-cuts of bigger hits such as '1999' and (probably the finest pop moment of the 80s) 'When Doves Cry'.
Still, what's great about this double-CD is: 1. the tunes are remastered for your iPod pleasure, and 2. there are remixes on the second disc. The aforementioned die-hard fans will have all these remixes on original vinyl, naturally, but to have them on CD/MP3, and remastered, makes one dribble like Homer over his dounuts.
'Ultimate' is a great intro for those seeking to understand what all the fuss is about with Prince. And great for those that were there the first time 'round. Maybe the videos remastered next? Go on Warners, milk it... we'll always shell out the pennies for Prince - the greatest musical hero of our times.
Another greatest hits
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the music on this collection, it's first class and shows what an awesome artist Price is........
But Warner must really need the money, or are we going to be subjected to a Prince "greatest hits" album every 5 years?
If you really want a good album then try Hits/The B Sides, so much better and overseen by Prince himself.
