Editorial Reviews
The Guardian
`Hobb is a remarkable storyteller.'
The Times
'Hobb is one of the great modern fantasy writers... what makes her novels
as addictive as morphine is not just their imaginative brilliance but the
way her characters are compromised and manipulated by politics.'
Synopsis
The final book in the brand new trilogy from the author of the Tawny Man and Farseer trilogies, following on from the bestselling Shaman's Crossing and Forest Mage. The people of Getty's town remember the death of their cemetery soldier vividly. They remember believing him guilty of unspeakable crimes, condemning him, and then watching as other men of his unit beat him until he no longer drew breath. But Nevare Burvelle didn't die that day, though everyone believes they saw it happen. He was cornered by a power far more intractable than an angry mob. When he was a boy, the magic of the Specks -- the dapple-skinned tribes of the frontier forests -- claimed Nevare as a saviour; severing his soul in two, naming his stolen half Soldier's Boy and shaping him into a weapon to halt the Gernian expansion into their lands and save their beloved ancestor trees. Until now Nevare has defied the magic, unable to accept his traitorous fate. But the magic has won: it has extinguished his once golden future, devastated his family and has now turned his own people against him.Faced with endangering the only loved-ones he has left, Nevare has no choice but to surrender to its will and enter the forest.

Great story - stands out from the rest
I have just recently been introduced to Robin Hobb but have managed to read all her books in the last year.
Unlike the Assassin books I had some empathy with the characters in this book and the story was very easy to read and gripping in places. If you liked any of Hobb's other books then this trilogy will not disappoint you.
Disappointing to say the least
I am a big fan of most of Robin Hobbs books. This one however is an extreme disappointment. I received the book over a year ago, and tried time and time again to force my way through it. Finally i have finished what was a slow, dull book. Id say the first 600 pages (ie nearly the whole book) are simply nonesense about trees, no gripping or exciting parts. I know this is a triology (and yes the first two in it are very good) and you might feel you have to read it because of that reason, but honestly, don't!
Worth waiting for
Robin Hobb never fails to keep the reader enthralled. Her previous books have, and the "Renegade's Magic" is certainly not an exception to her well established reputation. I eagerly awaited this book and was not disappointed. I now eagerly await the next series and hope she will keep providing us readers with great and very entertaining reading. Thanks Robin ):-) "May the peace of the creation of good work be forever with you"
