Product Description

Bidding for love can be a costly business...Flora Stanza has sub-let her London life in a bid to join the family antiques business. Her knowledge extends only to the information she has crammed from daytime TV, but what she lacks in experience she makes up for in blind enthusiasm. So she is more than a little put out when she doesn't receive the warm country welcome she expected. Her curt cousin Charles and his fiancee Annabelle are determined to send Flora packing, and their offer to buy her out is tempting ...until a strange warning makes her think twice. Stuck with a cat about to burst with kittens, Flora has little choice but to accept the offer to stay in an abandoned holiday cottage miles from any neighbours, let alone a trendy winebar. And between fighting off dinner invitations from the devastatingly handsome Henry, and hiding her secret eco-friendly lodger William, Flora soon discovers country life is far from dull as she sets about rebuilding the crumbling business ...

couldnt put it down5
This book is both funny and romantic! I love the way katie fforde writes and this one was, in my opinion her best! I genuinly couldnt put it down!

Chewing gum for the brain1
I'm afraid I thought this book was really bad, I got annoyed with the stupid air headed Flora whose character is all over the place, she's brave enough to leave London for a new life, yet too scared to sing in a choir without boring us to tears with her repeated "I can't!!", then suddenly manages to find the balls to be an auctioneer and through it all has no clue who she is in love with until Mummy darling comes along to tell her. There is no liking her, in fact I wanted to give her a good slap through most of it.
The other characters are equally annoying, Charles is not likeable at all, Annabelle is a posh country girl but allows a makeover almost immediately -HOW unlikely is that? Katie should write for an older age group, too many "awfully, terribly, dreadfully, golly, do sit down"s to appeal, and this kind of weak air headed girl is not appealing. Nor does she have enough literary depth to achieve the "Jane Austen" effect which she obviously aspires to, even mentioning Mr. Darcy.
The ending is hurried and silly, unsatisfying and unrealistic, even given these loose characters.
The conversations are wooden and underdeveloped, the plots absolutely transparent and the only reason I didn't throw it overboard is that I had nothing else to read.

Gotta love Flora's Lot!!5
This was the first book that I read of Katie Fforde's and I loved it! It may not be the most complicated or action packed love story but it was heart warming and easy to form an attachment to.

I've since read a few other of Katie's books and I find them all as addictive as Flora's Lot.

I recommend this book to any ol' softy!
