Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
Every book tells a story! And the 70 titles in the "Pocket Penguins" series are emblematic of the renowned breadth of quality that formed part of the original Penguin vision in 1935, and that continues to define our publishing today. Together, they tell one version of the unique story of Penguin. Elizabeth David was perhaps the most influential postwar cookery writer in Britain, championing good ingredients cooked simply and unpretentiously. This selection, taken from a number of her best-loved books, most of which are still published by Penguin, celebrates food in summer: from the joys of market shopping to the correct approach to dining outdoors.

Customer Reviews

Just a Taste of the Talents of Elizabeth David.4
Pocket Penguin 14:-
‘Of Pageants and Picnics’
by Elizabeth David
Foreword by April Boyes.
57 pages split over 7 chapters:-
'Picnics'
'Eating Out in Provincial France'
'The Markets of France'
'Italian Fish Markets'
'Summer Holidays'
'A La mariniere'
'Improvised Cooking for Holidays and Weekends'
Recipes include:- ‘Bacon & Lettuce Sandwiches’,
‘Cold Spiced Salt Beef’, ‘Mushrooms Cooked in

It should be noted that these little books are just

They are written in a fairly small print and indeed have
no pictures!
