"The object of this book is to get you into the frame of mind in which, instead of the normal method of stopping whereby you start off with the feeling that you are climbing Mount Everest and spend the next few weeks craving a cigarette and envying other smokers, you start right away with a feeling of elation, as if you had been cured of a terrible disease." HAVEN'T SMOKED FOR 5 YEARS AFTER READING THIS!5
I gave up (again) and was suffering the usual feelings of withdrawal, so in desperation I ordered this book to help me. By the time it arrived, I was desperate for a cigarette and wouldn't have been able to resist much longer. The book was wonderful. I read it in a day, put it down and that was it. Really, I haven't wanted a cigarette since. (And I used to smoke 30 a day!). I've lent it to others and they've stopped, too.
I can't recommend it highly enough.

Sorry but did not work for me2
I have wanted to give up for ages but tried everything.
Someone suggested this book and the reviews are good, so I thought i would try it. I first read the Womens edition and I did this with a positive frame of mind. Good book, he makes some good points, but sorry, it did not work for me. So I tried the normal edition, I read it half way through and just knew it was not going to work for me either.
I think it is great that it has helped so many people, and Allen Carr makes some good points, BUT I found it to be annoying, preachy and patronising.
I was going to go to one of the Allen Carr group sessions (which use a small dose of Hypnotherapy at the end)these cost £220, but you can get 2 hours with a Hypnotherapist for that. I understand that Allen Carr actually gave up using Hypnotherapy! I decided that I would try this route for myself. So I made sure that i found a really good Hynotherapist, and I have been a non smoker for a week now!!!!! brilliant, no cravings,no agony, its so easy and it works! I cant believe that I gave up so easily after smoking for 25 years. AMAZING!

I wish I had done this years ago.

Just like Magic!5
I have smoked for 25 years and tried everything to stop - hypnotherapy, patches, tablets, willpower. Nothing worked. It always felt as though I was being forced to give up something I enjoyed. I had read Allen's book once before, but still felt as though I was missing out on something, so I started smoking again. A few weeks ago I was thinking about my dad and how he died from a smoking related disease and wished I could just stop, like that. I was clearing out a cupboard and found my old copy of Allen's book. I decided to just take my time reading it again, if only to work out why it didn't work for me.
By the end of the book, I just didn't want to smoke anymore. I no longer felt that I was missing out on anything, rather the opposite. I no longer wanted to stand out in the cold and the rain in order to have a fag. And the feeling of freedom was amazing!
Stopping smoking doesn't make you a different person - actually, stike that, yes it does - it makes you a better person. You no longer feel a slave to cigarettes and you no longer have that little voice in the back of your mind telling you that there is a strong possibility that you will die of a smoking related disease. It really is a feeling of being free.
try it. What have you got to lose? You can always smoke again if you really want to, but I doubt you will.
