Does exactly what it says on the box
This little book is a great introduction to how Bill O'Hanlon does therapy - and gives a range of easy 'try it out' techniques that you can use with your own clients. This book is definitely designed for therapists, and is VERY practical and to the point. Each of the fifty-one methods is outlined clearly with examples over one or two pages. What you don't get it is a lot of the underlying framework and (dare I say it) theory behind it all (try Cade & O'Hanlon's 'A Brief Guide to Brief Therapy' for that), but it's great to dip into for interest, or new ideas to try when wondering what on earth to do next with a client. It's got a sense of humour too!
Useful and Fun! And this is about therapy?
Amazing! I love Bill's approach to work, so full of enthusiasm and wonder. This readily accesible text is just so handy for anyone working in the counselling or therapy field. Particuarly if you ever feel 'stuck' working with cases then this is for you.
Even if you dont feel stuck then this is still for you!
Just buy it.
Possibly a helpful review
As always with O'Hanlon lots of delightful humour, some intriguing ideas, and helpful tactics. However, if you have read any of his earlier work this book will not extend your knowledge or skills. I would, though, heartily recommend it as an introduction to the field of solution-focused therapy.
