Couldnt Put the book down
I have just finished reading this book, and it wasn't just a good read but it was captivating and funny. I could not put it down. I am not a Muslim but I have always been interested in other cultures and the author really portrayed the Islamic views well.
The book shows the different types of prejudice people go through due to their race and sex. The young girl Amal has to go through everyday teenage life with people who judge her because of her religion. Her friends have their own problems as well with eating disorders, forced marriages and unreasonable parents; Amal manages to use her religion as a guide on how to live life the right way whilst trying to impress the most popular boy in school, this book was truly refreshing and out of the ordinary, every teenager should read it.
Does my Head Look Big In This?
This book is yhe most fantastic book i have ever read any girl aged between 10-100 would love it its a funny ,happy, fried filled boook that i ever read.it also makes you think twice when you see muslims wearing the hijab and how much courage you need to wear it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 out of 10 for this book.
Does My Head Look Big In This?
I read a review for this book somewhere slating it as "Unislamic", I don't agree with that, I do not think it is unislamic at all. Amal is a sixteen year old teenage girl, she is going through all the "normal" things that a sixteen year old would go through, but it's how she deals with these things that make the book interesting. Yes she does have a crush on the cutest guy in school, but she does not act on these desires. She learns a lot during the chourse of this book, and any girl/young woman who is living in a Western country will be able to relate to her character. Of course she isn't a perfect Muslim girl, she does make some bad choices BUT you have to bear in mind she's only sixteen, and one can only learn from their mistakes. I would recommend this book to all teenage sisters. It also would help non-muslims to understand certain misconceptions made about Muslims, i.e. We're not terrorists!
I think this book is for the younger reader though, I'm twenty years old, and this is not the type of book I usually read, but nevertheless, I'm glad I read it. I only wish this book was written 5-6 years earlier.
