Worth every penny
I was so shocked when I got this book through the post. In fact I was a little excitedly shocked. It is brilliant. It looks absolutely fantastic and you can see they've spent alot of hard work trying to get it right. Everything about this is brilliant. Basically the book focuses on the image of the Pet Shop Boys with enough text to keep you happy, and some good info. I didn't know Chris Lowe started receding when Love Comes Quickly came out - that's why he wore the BOY hat! It has every single picture of every single release they've ever done, and nothing is missed out. It is a trip down memory lane for when I used to get vinyl and it also gets you to realise how much stuff you haven't got by them!
It is just pure class - it is definately definitive and the boys should be absolutely proud of what is a marvellous piece of work. Well done. No really - well done!!!
Essential for all true PSB fans
Flicking through this book drags me back through my teenage years. Each song, each concept, each design meant so much to me. Having spent so many hours poring over their products, it's rewarding to finally read why they chose each particular photograph and font. It's rekindled my love for them!
Heston Blumenthal would be Proud
This is the most desirable looking book I have seen in a long time. The attention to detail is meticulous. Everything from the classier-than-class silver finish dust jacket to the glorious layout and design is done to perfection. PSB artwork itself has always been of the highest quality, leaving aside the sheer quantity too which I hadn't realised, and the publishers have really done it justice here. Spread after spread of glossy, nostalgia inducing artwork is complemented by pithy snippets of text and catalogue information to dip into. I work in an altogether drier kind of publishing than this and as I leafed through I couldn't help but think how much hard work the development team must have put into this book - if you're out there, well done! If Heston Blumenthal were a publisher, he'd publish books like these. Except that this book is worth its cover price and then some. If you know a PSB fan who's due a present soon, get them this and you'll be in their good books for a long time.
