A breathtaking story!4
I couldn't wait to get started on this story since I first met Nicholas in previous de Piaget's books. To me, he is the perfect knight in shining armour and I think LK delivered him perfectly. Jennifer on the other hand tended to be a bit whiny towards the end. Otherwise loved the book. This is what a love story should be all about.

The grandmother, loved the woman, was doubly entertaining in this book, what with her batches of 'suitable brides' for Nicholas. It was hysterical.
But all he wanted was Jennifer, despite the fact she was from another time. He was tormented by this, knowing the pain this would cause him if he admitted to his feelings and she left him, when she found a way back to the future.

Much as I loved this book, there could have been more angsty scenes between H/H. Especially since Nicholas hides a secret from Jennifer. He knows the way she can go back to future and keeps it from her. Surely, this could make up for the lack of loves scenes when she finds out?
Still, the story was breathtaking. I adore the de Piaget's and can't wait for LK next book on this family.

Disappointing Read2
This was my first foray into the writings of this author, and I won't be rushing to buy any more. This story of lovers separated by around 800 years and two continents has the promising beginning of a great read. Until, that is, you realise that so many generations of one family are supposedly popping up through convenient timegates to decide on the heroine's lovelife. They also seem to have this amazing ability to visit each other - back and forth - whenever they feel like it, which kind of spoils the whole conflict of the heroine Jennifer having to choose between her life in the present day with that of the warm embraces of well-respected, chivalric knight Nicholas in 13th Century Scotland. Perhaps it would have been more enjoyable if I had read any of the previous stories in the series. As it was, I just couldn't warm to it at all. Disappointing.

Nice enough, but not the best of the series3
This was a nice enough story about Jennifer's and Nicholas's romance, with a pleasant central couple and amusing dialogue between Nick and his brothers. However, it was nowhere near the stongest of the time travelling series and I was somewhat disappointed. If you are coming new to this series like the other reviewer, you need to read one of the other books first, possibly that of Ian or James Macleod.

I do think that Ms Kurland has perhaps done this series to death now. Yes, I agree with the previous reviewer, that concentrating on one family of American's who travel backwards and forwards in time marrying medieval
knights and their sisters stretches one's fantasy imagination a bit too much now and becomes 'old hat'. Which I think was the problem with this latest book.

Personally, I think "A Garden in the Rain" was one of the nicest books in the series.
