"Fill My Stocking" is a collection of Christmas anecdotes, stories, poems and sketches from Alan Titchmarsh, beautifully illustrated with his own watercolour vignettes. A great raconteur and entertainer, Alan gets together every Christmas with family and friends to celebrate the season, and performs much-loved favourites old and new. "Fill My Stocking" combines these well-known favourites with his own self-penned festive pieces. Collected together for the first time, this is the perfect stocking filler for his legions of fans. Alan Titchmarsh has presented numerous television programmes including the hugely popular "How To Be A Gardener" and "British Isles: A Natural History". He is also a best-selling writer and novelist.

Alternative Christmas tales!
I defy even Scrooge (or Mr T's harshest critic) not to raise a smile with this one. Jane Austen and J M Barrie would be proud. Well possibly! A mixture of traditional Xmas stories and songs, with some of the funniest 'versions' of popular literature and panto. Some of it is lucky to be in print! If you have a sense of humour, this is most definitely for you.
A good, cosy read
For all you others who love Christmas, as I do, this is a good, solid compendium of Christmas writings, with some surprises but mainly the things you'd expect - but that's like the season itself!
I enjoyed browsing through it and would recommend it to those who wish to curl up in front of a log fire with a cup of hot chocolate or glass of mulled wine, especially if it's the time of year when you're trying to get yourself in the mood for writing your cards or wrapping those presents.
"Fill My Stocking". Christmas Anthology by Alan Titchmarsh'
During the Festival of "Nine Lessons and Carols" at Kings College, Cambridge, Christmas 2007, I heard "A New Nativity" by Alan Titchmarsh being read, as one of the lessons. I was so taken with this reading, I tracked it down in this book. This has been on my "Wish List", since then, finally purchased it in time for this last Christmas 2008!!!
This book makes delightful reading, with traditional favourites from, William Shakespeare, John Betjeman, Noel Coward and of course Alan himself
including his beautifull illustrations. A book that I will refer to time and time again.
