Balanced and delicious real food
This unexpectedly turned out to be one of the best low carb books I have ever bought and I have got quite a collection!Varied recipes using readily available ingredients (wherever you live) make following low carb easy and won't break the bank. I used to struggle trying to find the ingredients from Atkins and some South Beach and the shipping charges for getting them online were prohibitive. This is the new generation of low carb with a better balance of foods, getting away from the meat, meat and more meat approach. Worth buying.
fabulous food for low carb lifers
As a follower of Atkins style plans I have to adhere to the seemingly monotonous mantra 'protein, fat and fibre every meal' and as for desserts - maybe some berries and cream in the future [now and again]- if you were lucky! If you are on a low carb plan for life like me, do not despair! This book will give you hope that you can enjoy healthy low carb food without feeling deprived or restricted. Carolyn has taken all the allowed ingredients and mixed them in a magical way to make for stylish, imaginative, interesting and ultimately fabulous tasting low carb food. In this book Carolyn shares with us her obvious love of creating gorgeous-tasting food [including scrumptious desserts] The book is informative and interesting , with meal plans given for phase 1 [induction], phase 2 and 3[progressive] and the long term phase 4. The meal plans are adaptable and interchangeable and the recipes are easy to follow. This all enables the reader to recreate for themselves the inspirational and wonderful concoctions that the author has devised for us low carb long termers.
What a lucky find.
This popped up as a recommendation by Amazon as I have bought a LOT of low carb books in the last few months.
I almost passed it over as the cover didn't really attract me (I know, I'm shallow) but am I glad I decided to take a look and read the reviews.
Firstly, it's English rather than American which most of the low carb cookery books tend to be, so the ingredients are not a problem to get hold of. Actually, all the American terms are also given in brackets, which has actually enlightened me as to what some of the ingredients in my other cook books are. Did NOT know Spring greens were the same as collard greens! I digress.
The plan is well written, more or less the same as other plans but with a bit more leeway with the fruit and veg. I was getting to the point where I couldn't face another recipe with ground up nuts as a substitution. Very few of these recipes use ground up nuts. It is more like real meals, real cooking. Without having to make up a mix which you then used to make up another mix, to actually make the dish. I was getting fed up with cooking because everything was taking so LONG!
This is a plan, these are dishes, I can actually see me sticking with.
We had quiche tonight with the nearest thing to pastry I've had since we started low carb living. And no ground almonds!
I highly recommend this book. I have also ordered the carb counter by the same author.
It may not be glossy, but it's good!
