`Maximum pleasure, minimum fuss 4
....recreate the aromas and tastes of Grandma's kitchen with these deliciously tempting treats.'

2000/Ebury Press/paperback

`This is very much a cookbook about me.
It contains a lot of treasured memories about food, family and friends, along with lots of good recipes for everyday baking.
These are simple recipes that have transformed and enriched my life, and I hope they'll do the same for you...

The author spent her childhood in Colombia, then moved to the US before coming to Britain in 1984. Yet wherever she was there was a very good chance she would be found in the kitchen, experimenting with cookies or pursuing her aim of creating the perfect brownie.
Following a career in design and marketing, she trained at Leith's School of Food and Wine, then took the initiative and set up her own catering business.
As a brownie-craving, homesick American abroad, she quickly realised the commercial potential of really good quality homebaked treats and set up `The Little Red Barn' in 1996.... producing a variety of cookies, brownies, muffins and nuts.

Packed full of irresistible recipes to make at home, this book includes everything from canapés, snacks and quick breads to muffins, cookies and brownies....Each recipe uses only the best natural ingredients and an easy-to-follow method to give scrumptious results every time.'

144 high quality shiny pages, split over 7 main chapters:-

Muffins and Scones
Cakes and Frostings
Quick Breads
Pies and Strudels
Brownies
Cookies
Canapés, Hors, d'æuvres and Light Snacks

with an introduction, list of specialist suppliers and an index, which is enhanced by indicating the recipes which have a photograph (not that many).

The introduction includes a useful guide to basic techniques, so often assumed in some cookery books:-

Creaming
Folding
Kneading
Rubbing
Whisking

and guides to key ingredients, staple ingredients, equipment, (including a note about knowing your own oven and its capabilities and, if in doubt, invest in an oven thermometer to monitor the temperature), and organization.

Each chapter opens with relevant text and tips.
Each recipe has the title, opening text lists of ingredients and the method plus the number made.

Recipes include:-

Buttermilk Cherry Muffins
Swampscott Baking Powder Biscuits
Cheddar Cheese Scones
Cinnamon Buns
Popovers
Devil's Food Cake
Marble Loaf Cake

A taste of home!5
Being an American in Paris I was thrilled to find a cookbook full of recipes from home, adapted for living in Europe. A fan of the author's baked goods, which I bought at Harvey Nicols on several occasions, I was excited to be able to try out her recipes at home. So far the things that I have tried have been simple and fast to do with a great result. Only complaint...no Barn Nuts recipe!!!!
